Job Description Scope of Position: The Lactation Consultant collaborates with the patient care team, other health care professionals and the community to provide patients with breast feeding knowledge and skill. The Lactation Consultant is responsible for the overall planning, direction and evaluation of breast feeding education for the Department of Womena??s Health, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Infants. The focus of care is breast feeding education and support for the breastfeeding family, the community and health care providers. Outpatient Lactation provides comprehensive breast feeding education and support to the breastfeeding family, beginning in the prenatal period and continuing through the weaning period. Position Summary: Responsible for assessing, planning, managing, coordinating, directing and evaluating breast feeding education provided to the client and his/her family. The LC performs comprehensive maternal, child, and feeding assessments; develops individualized feeding plans in consultation with the client; and provides support and encouragement to successfully meet the breastfeeding goals of the client. Ongoing community education and agency collaboration is essential. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's Level Degree Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field desired; current Ohio license; International Board certification as a Lactation Consultant necessary (IBCLC); previous nursing experience in relevant care setting preferred; prior patient education and women and infant nursing desired.
