Job description

As a Specialist Solutions Engineer at Rapid7, you will be responsible to work as a team, working across organizations, to partner and assist pre-sales to close strategic deals, improve our products, processes and procedures and be an advocate for our customers. You’ll serve as a technical subject matter expert within D&R (Detection and Response) and liaison with Sales Engineering, Sales, Product Management, Product Marketing, Managed Services, Support and Customer Success to champion our customers and Sales Engineers across our organization.

About the Team


Our Global Specialist Solutions Engineering team partners closely with our regionally based Platform Sales Engineers and Account Executives in a pre-sales role to develop and position Rapid7 D&R security solutions. This team consists of a group of driven individuals who are focussed on architecting the right solutions that meet our customer’s needs.

About the Role

The Sales Engineer works as an equal partner with our sales team in matching up customers with Rapid7's security solutions. You will be required to possess presentation-ready knowledge and product expertise on all Rapid7's product groups, with specialized expertise in the security solutions.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner closely with prospect executives and their teams

  • Drive objective achievement through disciplined planning and organization

  • Support proof of concepts, run key projects, perform complex technical troubleshooting, architect and validate solutions.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of our security products including value proposition, the needs of customers, and the competitive landscape

  • Navigate complex customer organizations and align strategic solutions to multiple stakeholders within a target customer

  • Provide strategic insight to the internal management team and propose enhancement of operations

  • Partner closely with territory platform sales engineers to enable, mentor and continuously develop them.

The skills you’ll bring include:

  • 8+ years of technical solution selling and/or previous security or engineering experience

  • Experience selling in a sales specialist overlay model (Preferred)

  • Knowledge of public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerized environments and cybersecurity technologies

  • Experience with SIEM, Log Management, XDR/EDR, and security investigation tools

  • Extensive knowledge of security operations, SIEM, attack surface management, and endpoint security, including history and trends

  • AWS or other cloud service provider certifications (Preferred)

  • Scripting abilities in Bash, Powershell, or other scripting languages (Preferred)

  • An effective listener with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Driven & creative self starter, strategic thinker and innovator of solutions for internal and external customers.

  • BS or BA degree or commensurate work experience
