Job description

Job Summary:

The HAUV Technician oversees the operation of Hovering Autonomous Under Water Vehicle (HAUV) whilst it is on the deck and whilst conducting Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) operations or other supervised tasks.

The technician is responsible for the overall scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the vehicle, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of vehicle and skid components, and its various survey sensors required for its missions.

Certain tasks for the vehicle include installation and retrieval of survey sensor equipment on the seabed and emergency recoveries. For these operations the technician must be competent in piloting the vehicle remotely as well as situational awareness provided by survey displays in addition to the visual and sensor aids from the vehicle. HAUV systems and pilot training for the specific vehicle will be provided and a high level of competency must be demonstrated before working on the systems.

The job also encompasses system mobilization and demobilization including preparation of AUVs and containers for safe lifting as well as installation of AUV control vans and peripheral deck side equipment required for AUV operation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of HAUVs on an offshore vessel or platform
  • Inspect and maintain tooling skids attached to the HAUVs
  • Complete maintenance logs per HAUV system onboard
  • Install and troubleshoot HAUV systems inclusive of survey sensors, sonars, beacons, INS systems, cameras, batteries, computers, thrusters, tethers and motors.
  • Perform upgrades to various subsystems on the HAUV
  • Fabricate and repair sensor cables
  • Participate in toolbox talks, hazard identification, risk assessments
  • Maintain Work Instructions and Procedures for HAUV operation and maintenance
  • Participate in continuous systems improvement inclusive of OBN operations.
  • Conduct pre-launch and post-launch assessments of the HAUVs
  • Ensure deck and subsea operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner
  • Pilot HAUV’s from remote locations
  • Participate in Launch and Recovery of the HAUVs
  • Conduct Systems Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Mobilize and de-mobilize HAUVs, Deck Control systems, FO Winches, Chargers, Tooling Skids

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Higher Diploma in Electrical, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics or Electrical Systems Engineering
  • Experienced with HAUV, AUV or Electrical ROV experience in a technician or supervisory role offshore.
  • Competent in reading and interpretation of mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and technical documentation
  • Experienced with Fiberoptics, Low and High voltage systems
  • Experience with remote pilot operations such as AUVs, HAUVs, ROVs, Drones
  • Competent with computer systems, networking, various protocols
  • Competent with test and measurement equipment including, power and multimeters, oscilloscopes
  • Subsea Survey experience would be beneficial
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite incl. MS Project.
  • English is mandatory verbal and written (Excellent Level)
