About the role

Our department Future Concepts is at the forefront of advancing and analyzing next generation sustainable aero engine concepts and system capabilities. We also support our business and marketing organizations with input for decision-making and strategic plans. We are now looking for a new passionate and visionary team member that want to be part of the journey to shape the future of flight.
We are looking for an associate research engineer in the area of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics to help us develop the new technologies and solutions needed for the next generation of aero engines. You will also support different projects in the area of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics and help us in the development of our design and analysis methods. 

 

Job Responsibilities

•    Aerodynamic and aeroacoustic analysis & design of aero engine components.
•    Development of new technology/solutions aiming to reduce the environmental impact of flight.
•    Development of design and analysis methods, and know-how in aerodynamic design of aero engine components.
•    Design of components for rig tests and engine demonstrators. 
•    Validation of method and component design through testing. This includes instrumentation definition, test support and data analysis. 
•    Represent the company in collaborative research projects with academic and/or industrial partners. 
•    Support technology development in other areas with aerodynamic expertise
•    Assure proper documentation of technical results and present the results internally and externally
•    Support research in collaboration with universities including supervision of internships and Master’s projects
•    Contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership

 

Person Specification

You are an engineer with good understanding (and have a strong interest for the discipline) of aircraft engines: gas turbines, turbomachinery, thermodynamics, programming, fluid mechanics and compressible flow. You have recently graduated from a university and you have a strong interest in working in aerospace. You are a team player and problem solver who feels energized when facing technical challenges.   

Job Qualifications

•    PhD degree in Aeronautics, Fluid Mechanics or similar
•    Solid background in fluid mechanics and compressible flow
•    Solid experience in transient flow and aeroacoustics, e.g. turbomachinery noise, wave propagation, resonance, noise suppression technologies
•    Good programming & scripting skills. For calculations, tasks automation, data processing and visualization
•    Good understanding of jet engines
•    Good general engineering/technology knowledge base 
•    Detail oriented and self-motivated
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills
•    Proficiency in English, both spoken and written. Language skills in Swedish are preferred.

Desirable
•    Knowledge/experience from commercial tools such as CFX, Fluent, StarCCM+, ICEM-Hexa and Ansa

This position is based in Trollhättan, Sweden, as such, the applicant should be able to gain the right to live and work in Sweden. Travel to other locations within Sweden as well as EU is expected.
