Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Systems Integration Engineer to join our team. This role requires specialized expertise in power system studies, software and hardware integration, interface protocols, and problem-solving skills. The Systems Integration Engineer will play a pivotal role in solving complex, unprecedented challenges by collaborating with a diverse group of engineers to bring cutting-edge solutions to life. You will be responsible for the seamless integration of systems, ensuring that every project—large or small—delivers a reliable and high-quality outcome.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Power System Expertise: Develop and maintain advanced technical knowledge in electric power system protection, automation, and control.
  • Collaborative Design Work: Work alongside designers, vendors, utility providers, regulatory agencies, operators, contractors, and protection engineers to translate customer requirements into actionable technical solutions.
  • Control Systems Development: Design and configure settings for control systems, including protective relaying and communication processors.
  • Testing and Simulation: Simulate power system conditions in a lab environment to test integrated IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) and software, ensuring full functionality of communication and automation systems.
  • Report Creation: Write clear, detailed technical reports and documentation, ensuring accuracy in job billing and progress tracking.
  • Standardization and Documentation: Standardize logic schemes and document processes using AutoCAD, ensuring all designs adhere to industry standards.
  • Project Management: Track and manage project progress using web-based storage tools, ensuring deadlines are met and projects stay within scope.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Industry Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards such as NERC, IEEE, OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Specialized Skills: Expertise in generation and co-generation systems, complex control systems, and medium to high voltage substation startups.
  • Electrical Systems Understanding: Deep knowledge of electrical apparatus testing, power systems theory, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Communication & Organization: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, peers, and management.
  • Project Supervision: Proven ability to manage large-scale projects, demonstrating technical proficiency, business management skills, and sound judgment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and manufacturer-specific software.
  • Flexibility & Travel: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and nights, with availability for out-of-town and international travel (up to several weeks).
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and frequent driving.
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, testing, and commissioning of protection and automation systems.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Power Systems Engineer.
  • Registered Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or the ability to obtain licensure.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, kneeling, crawling, and bending.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent climbing (stairs, ladders) and driving (car, van, truck).

Environmental Demands:

  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions (cold below 32°F, heat above 100°F).
  • Medium to high noise levels.
  • Working in environments with moving machinery.
  • Required to wear protective equipment (earplugs, gloves, eyewear, etc.).

Travel Requirements:

  • 25% travel required.

Additional Requirements:
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this role, candidates will be required to successfully pass a drug test, a pre-employment background check, and a motor vehicle record check.
