Do you have experience helping utilities with programs for grid-interactive efficient buildings? Are you passionate about supporting utilities’ customer energy program portfolio transformation to integrate new and existing technologies for a flexible, responsive grid? Can you help utilities develop pilots or emerging technology demonstration projects? 

We’re looking for a client-facing technical strategist with experience in providing actionable recommendations to utilities. Someone who can make complex analysis actionable and clear. If you have deep knowledge of the utility industry, passion for emerging end-use technologies, and excellent analytical and communication skills, we’d love to talk with you! 

The product strategist role sets the direction and manages the entire product lifecycle for E Source custom r energy solutions research services. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be the face of E Source’s Technology Assessment offerings by aligning our products and content to meet the needs of our utility clients. This is a unique opportunity to be at the center of a major energy industry transformation to help utilities identify and adopt cutting-edge, end-used technologies into their portfolio.

What you’ll do 

• Set the annual research agenda and maintain the priorities for agile product delivery in a matrixed environment. 

• Implement measures that improve product health using continuous improvement principles and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support product quality, user satisfaction, and alignment with business goals. 

• Understand macro and micro industry trends and their impact on the product. 

• Represent client needs in the creation of deliverables. Create and leverage user stories to clearly define user needs and expectations. 

• Contribute to the team’s planned content and unplanned work by serving as a subject matter expert in writing and reviewing reports, presenting content and responding to on-demand research requests.  

• Lead or contribute to custom advisory projects for clients. At times, this might be up to 25% of your time. 

• Work with sales and marketing teams on go-to-market plans. 

• Lead the agenda creation for large in-person events, host online webinars, and conduct client advisory calls in the transportation electrification topical area. 

• Visit clients at their offices and attend industry conferences as a speaker and product representative.

• Demonstrated expertise with debunking the hype of emerging technologies and presenting technical analysis in a clear manner for your audience.  

• Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset about how to make E Source offerings match clients’ needs. 

• Knowledge about how utilities plan, design, implement, and evaluate DSM, DER, energy storage, and electrification programs. 

• Prior experience making recommendations to utilities about how certain measures can advance their customer energy solutions portfolios. 

• Exceptional writing, verbal, and analytical skills; E Source differentiates itself through our readable, clear, concise, and actionable reports and presentations. 

• Experience with electric, gas, or water utility demand-side management and distributed energy resources programs. 

• Humility and a collaborative attitude—you know there are things you don't know, and that energizes you; you work well in a team environment; you proactively seek support, advice, and guidance from others; and you’re happy to support your colleagues. 

• Rigor and discipline—you manage your time well and your coworkers can count on you to do what you say you’ll do. 

• Creativity and openness—you aren't afraid to share your ideas for how we might do things differently. 

• Engineering, physics, or another technical degree, or related certifications, are a plus.

The budgeted salary for this position is ​​$90,000 to $135,000 ​USD + annual bonus up to 8%. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience. 

This person can work 100% remote, but preference will be given for a hybrid schedule from of our physical office located in Boulder, Colorado;
