Job Summary

The Director of Mortgage Production is responsible for managing and ensuring the success of multiple mortgage teams, including overseeing sales management, growth, pipeline operations, adherence to policy, and profitability. This role requires building relationships and actively engaging with minority and underserved communities. A strong understanding of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Community Reinvestment Act, and Fair Lending Compliance, including Disparate Impact, is essential. Familiarity with programs promoting homeownership for underserved groups is key to expanding Southern Bancorp's footprint. Additionally, knowledge of special-purpose credit programs supporting homeownership with safe and sound lending practices aligned with Southern Bancorp's mission is a valuable asset. This position involves serving on government and non-government boards focused on diversity lending to contribute to potential changes in Fair Housing Initiatives and Community Reinvestment Act reform.

This is a remote position only offered in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, MO, NC, SC, TN or TX.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with and report directly to the mortgage executive team, providing strategic direction and management to production managers, lenders, and staff.
  • Assist production managers in developing and implementing business and financial plans.
  • Oversee mortgage loan production, efficiency, and execution, while supporting and serving as a resource for the mortgage production team.
  • Act as a community development lender, working with borrowers to assess feasibility and structure transactions until team growth necessitates a more focused role.
  • Compile and share best practices in community development lending, policy, and program areas.
  • Support community engagement and partnerships that align with Southern Bancorp's mission.
  • Provide input on products, down payment assistance programs, and investor needs to advance Southern Bancorp's mission.
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Ten years in community development or minority mortgage lending, focusing on bridging the homeownership gap in underserved communities.
  • Minimum five years in the mortgage industry in a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of program and mortgage investor guidelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to positively represent Southern Bancorp to customers and colleagues.
  • Strong judgment, decision-making abilities, and the capacity to perform under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain teams and relationships.
  • Ability to travel to team locations in multiple states; must have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Must have or obtain NMLS clearance.
  • Fluency in a second language is preferred but not required.
