The Role

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying insurance benefits for potential incoming clients to determine financial feasibility for treatment. 

 Responsibilities

  • Obtain the most up to date, full, and detailed benefit quote using insurance portals, insurance phone communications, or client provided documentation.
  • Confirming all revenue codes are valid and billable to client’s specific insurance coverage.
  • Ensure patient responsibility is accurately documented to allow for an accurate quote of client share of cost.
  • Maintain confidentiality following all HIPAA regulations.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude toward work and the workplace with behavior that supports administrative and business decisions.
  • Creates an atmosphere of mutual trust, harmony, acceptance and respect within the department and the company. 
  • Always upholds the confidentiality of patient protective health information as well as the organization.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality, adhering to the work and appointment schedules, while maintaining accurate time records.
  • Accurate and timely completion of work assignments according to the designated timeline, while making efficient use of the organization’s resources, has a willingness to learn, and is coachable.  
  • Participates in all organizational performance improvement initiatives.
  • Serves as a representative of Alsana, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration and discretion in all interactions with Alsana team members, clients, and insurance carrier partners.
  • Performs all duties to the highest ethical standard and complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and standards of client care.
  • Highly organized and great attention to detail, including the ability to work productively while managing multiple projects, priorities, and making independent decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, effectively and professionally calm clients as well as distressed and/or agitated clients.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining client documentation in an accurate and timely manner, in compliance with established audit and productivity standards.
  • Participate as a team member, collaborating with and providing excellent customer service to clients, peers, other Alsana employees, and other internal and external individuals.
  • Displays enthusiasm, positive problem solving and commitment to help both colleagues and the organization reach its goals.
  • Assist with other projects, duties, and tasks as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three (1-3) years of current experience in medical/Mental Health related insurance with an understanding of self-pay, private insurance, and government programs required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of insurance benefit verification process
  • Prior knowledge of healthcare carriers and payer requirements.
  • Experience performing tasks that require a basic understanding of accounting and math skills.
  • Ability to identify an issue, examine options, and provide an effective solution.
  • Must be PC literate and able to navigate computer, phone, electronic health record (E.H.R), Microsoft 365 (word, excel, outlook), and other information technology systems independently.

Hourly Rate: $20.00/hour with a quarterly bonus plan tied to insurance verification accuracy and turnaround time

Part time: Remote - 20 hours a week (5 x 4 hour shifts)

Schedule: Mon-Fri 6am-10am PST
