Reporting to the Manager of Innovation and Emerging Technologies, this position entails collaborating closely with the innovation team and various departments to identify, develop, and implement new technologies, processes, and ideas that can enhance the company's operations, efficiency, and competitiveness. Additionally, you will define and evolve concepts aligned with Bird’s technology innovation portfolio.

This position is based in the Edmonton office.

What you will be working on

  • Deliver technical support for implementing innovative projects, including troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of emerging technologies.

  • Assist in developing and deploying new technological solutions such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), IoT devices, smart construction tools, and other advanced technologies.

  • Participate in pilot projects to assess the feasibility and impact of new technologies and solutions.

  • Conduct research on emerging technologies, tools, and best practices within the construction industry and related fields.

  • Provide training and support to employees on new technologies, tools, and processes to ensure their successful adoption during evaluation.

  • Analyze current processes to recommend technological improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving quality.

  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept models to test new ideas and technologies.

  • Define, maintain, adapt, and disseminate technology innovations.

  • Stay informed of industry developments relevant to the business; identify innovation opportunities and collaborate with business partners and external organizations to develop these ideas.

  • Quantify the benefits and develop business cases for transformation efforts or innovation initiatives.

  • Work closely with vendors to evaluate if their products align with business and/or technology requirements.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in technical support or an innovation-related role, preferably within the construction or technology industry

  • Proven expertise with construction technologies, software, and tools (e.g., BIM, CAD, IoT devices)

  • Flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment

  • Effective and efficient problem solving and decision-making skills; thoughtful, proactive and creative

  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment

  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment

  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
