Position Overview

The Sr Legal Specialist supports the Legal Department by managing legal operations including entity management, development and enforcement of policies and procedures, support of legal training, management of legal technology, involvement in assessments and other risk-management functions, engagement, and reporting and process improvements.  

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Law Firm and Vendor Relationship Management: Manage the operational aspects of relationships with outside counsel and other legal services suppliers; Assist in the negotiation and coordinate the enforcement of engagement agreement terms with law firms; Collect market data/information relevant to supplier selection and rationalization; Oversee legal department’s systems for submission and review and other service provider invoices, including submission of litigation and M&A matter budgets.
  • Department Information Technology: ; Manage relationships with internal and external providers of legal and compliance technology services and oversee negotiation, procurement and implementation of software and hardware.
  • Entity Management: Manage registered agent and corporate filings vendor regarding business qualification.
  • Administrative Support of Legal Department: Manage the administrative and some operational activities associated with legal department programs, policies, and training under the direction of department leads. May include supporting investigations, incident management, coordination of reports, triaging requests, privacy assessments and other projects as assigned
  • Process Improvement: analyze existing processes for law and compliance matter management, including allocation of matters to internal and external resources, tracking and follow-up throughout matter life cycle, and work with departmental personnel to develop process improvements that promote cost reductions and other efficiencies.
  • Attorney Qualification Monitoring: Creates and maintains appropriate systems and records to ensure timely compliance with local CLE and annual registration requirements in licensed jurisdictions.
  • Metrics and Analytics: further develop and oversee department KPIs are collected in an accurate manner and made available for use in a timely fashion.
  • Support Advise on strategic ad hoc projects and initiatives as needed

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (law, public policy, marketing, business, finance or related discipline preferred)
  • 5 years of experience in legal, policy, auditing, training, or related discipline; prefer bio/pharma/medical device/diagnostics industry experience
  • Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment (e.g., privacy, employment law)
  • Strong verbal and written business communication skills: highly adept at synthesizing and summarizing complex and/or voluminous content into clear, concise and actionable communication or training
  • Ability to work under fast-paced conditions, comfortable making decisions and demonstrates good judgment
  • Strong process-orientation: has proven effectiveness in identifying, developing and implementing scalable/sustainable process and other continuous improvements to achieve organizational efficiencies and increase effectiveness
  • Excellent project management skills: can prioritize multiple tasks and goals to ensure timely, on-target and within-budget accomplishments
  • Proficiency in workplace technologies (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, project management software, legal operations and management technologies)
  • Committed team player while taking initiative to get results with moderate supervision

Preferred

  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in privacy and/or employment matters
  • Specialist certification a plus (e.g., CIPP, SHRM)
  • Healthcare compliance certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of appointment
  • Comfortable working with different levels of the company including senior level management
  • Experience with system design and administration, specifically compliance and legal system common in the industry
  • Highly organized with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to set priorities and juggle multiple demands

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office setting. On rare occasions, may require working late hours and/or weekends.
  • This is a remote role but there is a preference for candidates in the greater Seattle area.
  • May require travel up to 10% of the time.

Compensation

Salary Range: $100,600 - $150,800

Other compensation elements include:

  • equity grant
  • bonus eligible

Adaptive’s posted compensation information includes a base salary (or hourly rate) range and summary of other available total compensation. The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
