Executive Sales Specialist, Central Region

As an Executive Sales Specialist for the Central Region (Austria) at Illumina, you will play a critical role in driving sales growth and supporting customers by leveraging your technical and scientific expertise in genomics. You will collaborate with sales teams to achieve sub-regional sales objectives and provide technical consultation for Illumina product lines, ensuring that customers receive the highest level of support and guidance. You will also report on sales progress, market trends, and competitor activity.

Responsibilities will include

  • Player-coach supporting the sub-region according to local needs (either focusing on one country in the sub-region and coordinating / coaching for the other countries, or focusing equally across the districts)
  • Brings together R&D, Marketing and Field Application Scientist knowledge to a consultative sales role. Interfaces with corporate product teams and field marketing to bring key technical product knowledge to the field
  • Understands and stays up to date with competitive insights and Illumina sequencing product lines (instruments, library prep, informatics)
  • Reads, understands, and communicates key findings from current scientific sequencing publications as well as essential product knowledge to customers and the sales team
  • Presents technical seminars on Illumina Sequencing applications i) to customers and ii) to sales to enable them to do the same to customers
  • Assists with workshops, conventions, seminar series and other customer-facing activities as required
  • Spends at least 40% of their time in the field (or virtually in case of travel restrictions) developing customer relationships
  • In alignment with the field sales team, closes high quality sales prospects in the focus countries to meet sales targets
  • Supports the wider team in developing and delivering content to customers; builds the plan at sub-region level
  • Focus on strategic technologies and business areas (e.g Multiomics, Biobanks, Large Project Support). Generally, not account-assigned; called into accounts as opportunities are identified and may work with account-assigned sales account managers to close sale.
  • Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned. May train and mentor junior level staff.
  • Works with and coaches local Territory Account Managers, Field Application Scientists, Technical Sales Specialists and District Sales Managers to help them achieve (sales) objectives. May also be called on as a technical product expert to develop and present sales proposals and systems solutions, and close complex technical sales. Aligns strongly with the sales team and is reporting in the sub-regional commercial lead

Preferred background, skills and experience

  • Well-developed professional and strategic Sales skills, or demonstrable Field Applications experience, with proven ability to develop and grow key accounts through networking at all levels on the customer organization
  • Directs the application of existing principles and guides development of new policies and ideas. Understands the interrelationships of different disciplines.
  • Works on complex assignments where problem solving requires in-depth evaluation of varying factors and practices/procedures must be determined.
  • Enhances internal and external working relationships and networks with key contacts outside area of expertise. Strong desire establish long term customer relationships
  • Adapts style to differing audiences and frequently advises others on complex matters that relate to the wider business and require persuasion.
  • Applies advanced wide-ranging experience and professional knowledge to provide solutions in creative and effective ways.
  • Able to develop and maintain current knowledge of genomics and sequencing applications, and have deep discussions with KOLs and other stakeholders
  • Strong technical presentation skills. Able to engage at account, district or region level in 1:1 or large audiences
  • Able to take global strategies, localise them and adapt to specific customers or audiences
  • Highly self-motivated, independent, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment
  • Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Experience/Education:

  • Typically requires extensive related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or considerable related experience and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with some related experience; or equivalent experience.
