The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Innovation Lab Infrastructure Engineer - Intermediate Level for our Technical Operations Team in the USAA Labs Innovation Department to provide technical assistance and guidance on various technologies and projects like 3D printing, Drones, and IoT devices. They will work with the team responsible for building, designing and supporting the USAA Labs Data Center and Infrastructure to include, but not limited to, LAN/WAN Network, NetApp Storage, Machine Learning GPU environment, VMware virtual environment, and multiple DMZ’s.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based out of San Antonio; TX or Plano; TX.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:
Under direct supervision, design scalable IT system infrastructure, implements system changes with some independence; may automate service delivery, maintenance tasks, and builds the ecosystem for solutions including individual infrastructure components.
Resolves simple technology production issues with some assistance through troubleshooting systems. Identifies issues for escalation.
Analyzes outages in order to find opportunities for solutions.
Participates in product selection and testing. Understands engineering standard methodologies, concepts, and patterns
Intake customer requirements and aligns requirements to standardized product offerings Interacts with management and staff to provide analytical and technical assistance for continuous improvement of IT solutions. – and would need to be differentiated across levels
Develop software defined infrastructure in code in CI/CD Pipelines
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
2 years of infrastructure experience specific to a discipline/technology or applicable IT experience such as IT Management, Software Development, Data Engineering, and Agile Product/Release Management.
1 year of experience in creating, modifying, and maintaining infrastructure and individual system components.
Developing level of business acumen in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends.
Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart:
Basic understanding of cloud architecture and supporting cloud services i.e. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to include cloud security standard methodologies, designs and configurations.
Basic understanding of system administration applied to researching and developing security policies, standards, and procedures across multiple platforms and applications.
Basic IT troubleshooting skills for various i.e Cloud platforms, various operating systems, networking, storage.
Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Terraform and JavaScript.
Basic understanding of deploying and maintaining virtual environments e.g. VMware, Hyper-V.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $67,220- $128,480.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
