Student Affairs is seeking an AI Integration Developer for a Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) project – an interactive, online, student self-service information hub. The project is a key feature in the President’s efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at the University. The AI Integration Developer will play a pivotal role in the maintenance and enhancement of the information hub. More information about the project can be found at myresource.psu.edu.
The AI Integration Developer will work with a Project Manager and Business Systems Analyst to lead the Generative AI application, including optimizing existing models and developing innovative solutions.
Specific responsibilities include:
Development, Maintenance, and Support
Design, code, test, debug, implement, modify, and maintain applications related to Generative AI
Create and train models using IBM’s watsonx tools and libraries, build sentiment analysis models, and language translation systems
Utilize common programming languages such as JavaScript and Python coding to maintain and enhance the user interface, establish guardrails, and fine-tune the model to ensure the best results
Integration, Monitoring, Security, Compliance
Implement monitoring strategies to allow for diagnosis of problems and failures that provide the ability to perform root cause analysis on failed components and implement corrective measures
Monitor performance and usage statistics for fine-tuning and adherence to licensing caps
Ensure compliance with standards, including usability, accessibility, and security
Create and maintain secure development environments; run quality checks to ensure stability and efficiency for high-level performance
Manage various configurations to ensure each deployment is managed effectively for availability and efficiency; develop system solutions based on user needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms
Collaborate with application developers, project managers, and service managers to improve processes and procedures such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
Process Improvement and Industry Trends
Understand the application development lifecycle and contribute to software analysis, design, and implementation
Design and enhance complex database objects (e.g., stored procedures, functions, tables) to support reporting environments
Stay up to date with AI trends, foundation models, and large language models and evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to assess their potential impact on solution design and implementation
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
3 or more years of professional experience in Python
Web development knowledge including experience interacting with REST APIs via Python and web front ends
Proven experience with UI build tools, web application frameworks
Configuration management expertise using Git, Bitbucket, or GitLab
Familiarity with generative AI development, including prompt engineering
Ability to enhance virtual agents’ capabilities with support for additional natural languages
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of IBM’s watsonx platform
Good communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Experience establishing best practices and standards for generative AI development, including prompt engineering
The location of this position is flexible, allowing for full remote work within the United States, full-time in-person work at our University Park Campus, or a hybrid model combining both remote and in-person work. Standard working hours are based in the Eastern Time Zone. Candidates must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
