Job description

Senior Accountant

Are you an experienced accounting professional with a passion for analysis and process efficiency? The Opportunity Alliance is seeking a dynamic Senior Accountant to join our Finance department.

As a crucial member of our team, you will optimize the accuracy of financial information by performing account reconciliation, analysis, and journal entries. You will assist with month-end close, year-end close, and prepare for annual audit. You will own more than day to day accounting tasks; you will perform ad hoc analysis and oversee special purpose projects to assist the department and the agency in financial and process efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing organization dedicated to serving our community.

Work is performed, reviewed, and evaluated under the supervision of the Financial Reporting Manager. This position attends and participates in periodic finance department staff meetings and training. 

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, hourly paid position.

Regular business hours M – F.

Location: Office is based in South Portland.

Opportunity to work remotely in Maine or (NY, NH, MA, AZ, CO). Onsite orientation is required. There may be some need to report to the office for meetings from time to time.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and 6 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required in accounting.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted principles and practices and laws.
  • High level of comfort with relational databases and MS Excel required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.
  • Outstanding attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Normal office conditions such as sitting, with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings but is not a primarily and essential job responsibility.
