Summary of Job Duties:
Are you passionate about making a difference in the field of organ transplantation? As an Organ Surgical Recovery Coordinator, you'll play a vital role in the operating room, supporting surgeons with organ recovery and overseeing the preservation process using state-of-the-art mechanical perfusion devices. You'll also guide hospital teams on best practices for organ preservation, packaging, and delivery, ensuring each step meets the highest standards. Additionally, you'll be the logistical powerhouse, coordinating transportation for recovery teams and maintaining seamless communication across departments to ensure organs are transplanted efficiently and safely.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field plus three (3) years of research experience
Sterile technique and Operating Room Experience
Must feel comfortable and confident when handling hazardous substances: physical (sharps), biological (human tissue and fluids) and chemical (formaldehyde, dry ice and liquid nitrogen)
Special knowledge, abilities and skills:
Medical Terminology and clinical experience in a medical/healthcare field
Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail
Basic computer skills including MS Office Suite and Outlook, and ability to learn new internal health information systems required
Must be able to work long hours including overnights, holidays and weekends
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically lift up to 75 pounds
Must have a valid driver’s license & a good driving record
Must live within a 30-minute commute to UAMS, LR
Must be comfortable with traveling on a small aircraft

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and optimize every step of the organ recovery process, ensuring full adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.
Coordinate all logistics for team transport during offsite liver and pancreas procurements, including booking flights, arranging ground transportation, and preparing essential supplies and equipment.
Accompany surgeons in the OR, assisting with the procurement, preservation, packaging, and transport of organs for liver and pancreas transplants.
Handle biological specimens for research, conduct experiments, analyze data, and compile findings to support ongoing studies.
Maintain meticulous records, manage data, and coordinate research activities, including scheduling exams, tests, and trials as needed.
