This position manages all general accounting and financial reporting functions and ensures effective internal control environment is established and maintained. Incumbent will manage all activities related to general accounting, monthly and annual financial reporting, and annual audits. Incumbent will establish and maintain contemporary accounting policies and procedures ensuring compliance with US GAAP and other regulations and for continuously optimizing processes. Incumbent must be experienced in performing in depth technical research for new accounting pronouncements or company initiatives. 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities 

  • Manage the integrity, accuracy, and informational quality for all general accounting functions, compliance with US GAAP and, where applicable, Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulations. 

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and pending/proposed US GAAP; perform technical research and document findings to support the impact on company financial reporting and accounting policies. 

  • Support the monthly and annual close process, delivering timely and accurate financial information that is compliant with US GAAP and other regulations. 

  • Drive ongoing change management within the accounting organization to improve underlying effectiveness, transparency, and control environment utilizing automation, process optimization, and other methodology. 

  • Provide technical accounting leadership and support to all areas of the company, including but not limited to guidance on revenue and cost recognition, business combinations, consolidations, lease accounting, pension and post-retirement benefits, capitalization policy, and due diligence activities for potential acquisitions/dispositions. 

  • Maintain robust internal control environment that is capable of adequately safeguarding company assets. 

  • Maintain effective relationship with the external audit firm and support the annual audit process to drive minimal adjusting entries and management recommendations. 

  • Continuously meet with other financial and functional peers and to identify areas of improvement related to the timeliness and accuracy of the company financial information; Develop and execute plan to deliver improvements. 

  • Manage the accounting for the various subsidiaries and equity method investees and provide guidance to their teams as needed. 

  • Manage the revenue recognition policy  and ensure all transactions are recorded/tracked in accordance with GAAP. 

  • Coordinate the external  audit process, including preparation of financial schedules for external audit firm, provision of supporting documentation and thoughtful interaction with audit team. 

  • Provide assistance in mergers and acquisitions from an accounting and valuation perspective, as needed. 

  • Supports budgeting and planning activities. 

  • Supports vendor risk management activities 

  • Reviews vendor contracts for accounting treatment 

Supervisory Responsibility 

  • Provide direction and leadership to staff; guide, coach, mentor and develop staff ensuring compliance with processes and procedures 

  • Handle interviewing, hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, compensation, counseling and termination of staff 

  • Develop and maintain staff by applying the necessary training and leadership that will allow internal growth and advancement 

  • Direct staff, to ensure that all duties are performed according to department performance standards 

 

Education 

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field is required. Current CPA certification is required. 

Experience  

Five (5) years of progressively challenging accounting work experience required. Strong understanding of applicable GAAP regulations is required. 
 
Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience preferred. Experience with a national/”Big 4” accounting firm preferred.
