Job description

Job Purpose

The Director of Development leads the fundraising operations for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, focusing on gift processing, grants, annual fund, and planned giving. This role drives efforts to secure financial resources critical to the organization’s mission, working closely with the VP of Advancement and Marketing to ensure sustainable revenue growth, and assures excellence in all donor engagement.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of gift processing, gift acknowledgement, donor appreciation, recording and reporting.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive annual fund strategy to achieve annual revenue targets.
  • Work closely with Habitat for Humanity International on all aspects of our shared fundraising efforts and appeals.  
  • Lead and coordinate resources and campaign around Planned Giving programs.
  • In coordination with the Grants Manager, identify and secure corporate sponsorships and foundation grants, with annual targets for each funding stream.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of donor stewardship events, including annual galas and recognition events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to align donor outreach and branding efforts.
  • Regularly report on development performance to the VP of Advancement and Marketing and the executive leadership team.

Safety

  • Assume responsibility to enforce safe work practices by all Habitat team member, volunteers, subcontractors and workers at all our locations and events to ensure we meet, if not exceed, OSHA and Habitat safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all team members are aware of and operate by the safety policies and procedures
  • Exercise outlined protocol by immediately notifying and collaborating with management on any safety related incident and/or respond to a report involving Habitat or any other related team members (workers, volunteers, and subcontractors).
  • If within area of purview initiate and / or provide assistance for the proper investigation regarding safety incidents by following Habitat Safety policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, higher level degrees or certifications a plus.
  • 7-10 years of progressive fundraising experience, including appeals, planned giving and corporate partnerships.
  • CFRE preferred or in process.
  • Proven project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with team support and supervision.
  • Strong understanding of donor cultivation and stewardship practices.
  • Proficiency in CRM software for fundraising, such as Salesforce, Virtuous, or Raiser’s Edge.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

    Working conditions

    This position operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop/desktop computers, photocopiers and smart phones. Occasional travel to remote facilities and/or sites is necessary, this can include active construction sites, retail sites, and vendor locations and may require you to be outside in various weather conditions. 

     Physical Requirements

    This is combined office (sedentary) and site (active) role; a combination of office duties (i.e., some filing) is required which would require the ability to lift files up to 25 LBS, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This job may require prolonged times of sitting. Finger dexterity to use office equipment. Occasionally this role may be on a jobsite or at an event and would need to comply with the organization’s safety guidelines. There may also be times job site or ReStore site visits / work may require additional lifting, standing, or physical activities beyond the office role.
