The Clinical Informatics team at Availity operates at the exciting intersection of healthcare and information technology. The team is charged with being Availity’s clinical center of excellence. This team builds and maintains the proprietary mapping and intellectual property of Availity’s clinical solutions at large. Reporting to the Medical Director of Clinical Informatics, the Clinical Informatician will be a key member in the clinical informatics and terminology department. In this role, you will use your specialized clinical informatics experience, FHIR and CDA expertise to work closely with product, terminology, and development teams to help implement clinical informatics and data interoperability best practices, inform product design, and meet a wide variety of complex cross-team goals.
This is a complex role in a fast-paced environment that spans multiple responsibilities and requires working across different teams. Examples of your day-to-day work will include authoring C-CDA and FHIR data transformation requirements, working directly with engineering teams to support implementation and testing; engaging with HL7 standards communities to influence future implementation guides; and acting as a clinical informatics team mentor and leader to ensure continued support and growth of all team members. In addition, you will play a key role in assessing how our product development can best stay aligned to the evolving HL7 and USCDI standards and anticipate how our product roadmap should be shaped based on evolving specifications. Your unique skillset will make you a key resource in FHIR product planning and in clinical informatics cross-department initiatives.

To be qualified for this position you:
- 3+ years combined clinical informatics or informatics-based product development experience.
- Domain expertise in healthcare business, clinical data, and various HL7 standards (e.g., C-CDA, HL7v2, USCDI).
- Experience working with customers to understand their complex data use cases to guide requirements writing and refinement, and experience working directly with engineering teams to deliver against those requirements.
- Develop and maintain architecture across different data models which includes guiding principles, standards, and patterns.
- Hands-on experience with information architecture and clinical data solution design.
- Bachelor’s degree in clinical informatics, information technology, or a clinical discipline with extensive informatics experience; master’s degree preferred but not required.
- Analytical skills with hands-on experience in identifying, quantifying, and effectively raising risks associated with clinical data quality and data standards compliance.
- Working experience with standardized clinical terminology code sets (e.g., SNOMED-CT, ICD-10, LOINC, RxNorm, etc.).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with capability to execute with business and technology stakeholders.
- Have flexibility to partner with and negotiate with various personality types at all levels within and outside the organization.

You will be:
- Using your specialized informatics experience and creativity to design FHIR applications and complex data solutions.
- Integrating with and guiding engineering teams to deliver and test those solutions.
- Working directly with customers to understand their data use cases, writing detailed requirements and acceptance tests to deliver superior quality solutions against those use cases, and educating customers on how to use our product to meet those use cases.
- Writing and maintaining detailed internal and external-facing product documentation.
- Through leadership and influence, using your subject matter expertise to guide product planning and other cross-department initiatives to meet business needs.
- Liaising with standards organizations and actively participating in future implementation guide development.
- Guiding our HL7 product strategy and roadmap by tracking how the HL7 standard is evolving amidst the standards community and how HL7 is being adopted and implemented in the broader market.
- Participating and leading other informatic and terminology-related efforts as needed.
