Summary:  The Director, QA and Testing provides strategic leadership, oversight, supervision, and guidance in best practices for recognizing and advancing opportunities to improve people, process, and technology.  Drives strategic direction, team performance, innovation, and the faster delivery of high-quality software to our customer.  The Director is an advocate and a change agent for executive leadership and for the product and delivery teams.

 Key Responsibilities: “To simplify complexities for each customer.”

  1. Develops and implements a comprehensive software quality assurance strategy, including best practices and standards that aligns with the company’s objectives. Oversees the implementation of quality assurance processes and policies throughout the product and service development lifecycle. Ensures that QA processes are integrated with development and align with Agile methodology.
  2. Drives the adoption of automation testing to improve testing efficiency and coverage. Evaluates, selects, and implements automation testing tools and frameworks.
  3. Plan, coordinate, and execute testing activities, including functional, performance, security, and usability testing. Review and approve test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test results. Identify, analyze, and report software defects, issues, and risks.
  4. Defines testing strategy and standards for the organization.  Establishes and manages test plans, test cases, and test scripts. Oversees the execution of various types of testing, including functional, regression, performance, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and security testing.
  5. Defines and measures key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of the QA function. Generates and presents regular quality reports to senior management. Encourages and facilitates a culture of continuous improvement within the QA team.
  6. Works with stakeholders to develop and implement new quality initiatives, solutions and tools that contribute to competitive and productivity improvements, incident reduction and best practices. 
  7. Supports enterprise business solutions through identification and evaluation of priorities and actions necessary for launch, implementation and operation of testing solutions and related IT delivery services.
  8. Manages and allocates resources (people, technology, and time) to assign specific tasks to various team members. Sets deadlines and ensures that they are met. Provides regular updates to Leadership and other key stakeholders on project and defect status and progress. 
  9. Ensures that lead and principal-level employees mentor test engineers, growing their skillset by training them on new technologies, advising areas of study, and teaching them about standard implementations and patterns. Ultimately accountable for leadership, training, and talent retention of team members on the Testing team.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities:  

Directly supervises test engineer team employees. Performs supervisory responsibilities by directing and allocating employee resources in accordance with company policies, applicable laws and company initiatives/goals.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work (including scheduling); appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Acts as a change agent, and develops a high-performing team in the spirit of exceptional service to all internal and external partners.

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 10-15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a leadership role including at least 3 years of direct management experience required.  Excellent interpersonal communication and strong presentation skills are required.  Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry is helpful.

Proven experience implementing and leading quality assurance program for software products.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proven experience with managing teams in an agile culture, including working with delivery, product, and portfolio level teams.  Must have strong communication skills; including the ability to gather and communicate metrics across the organization and the ability to collaborate, initiate and drive change.

Experience with Application Development, Agile, Lean, DevOps methodologies, Automated Testing, SQL and Relationship management (BRM/CRM) are required.    Preferred experience with Version One, Selenium, Jenkins, SQL Server, Cucumber, Power BI and Microsoft Office Suite.  Proficiency in the use of java-based libraries (Selenium, Rest Assured, etc.) is essential. Strong understanding of both UI and API testing is required. Familiarity with Jenkins preferred. Familiarity with all types of tests including component/unit, integration, system, and acceptance.

Anticipated Starting Pay Range
$132,600$182,270 USD
