Responsibilities
The Instructional Designer EHR performs a full range of professional duties assisting colleagues with designing and implementing a variety of types of courses (asynchronous and synchronous virtual and in person; standalone, blended and academic) as well as computer training support for the EHR. This includes conceptualizing design and technology options, programs, and deploying them and assisting in assessing education technology products for efficacy on an ongoing basis. The Instructional Designer EHR works with Epic, the application teams, and the designated practice or operational representatives to develop new education curriculum (courses, content and materials), translate existing content to new delivery formats and maintain all resources, courses, materials and build for the organization through Epic quarterly upgrades. This position assesses needs of the organization and designs curriculum for instruction, regularly attends classes, meets with instructors and reviews end user feedback to insure the quality of our Epic Training environment (MST) and curriculum meets the needs of our staff on an ongoing basis. MST build includes but is not limited to: creating robust patients and patient scenarios that are clinically appropriate, building training users that align with the access points our actual staff roles, building departments, appointment and encounters, troubleshooting build errors after build migration, working closely with the application team to keep our environment in sync with the Production environment to provide the most realistic experience for our students. The Instructional Designer EHR will also have a responsibility for understanding the basics of eDevelopment design: script writing and basic workflow recording in Kaltura or similar beginner software platform. The Instructional Designer EHR will also have responsibility for project management and tracking. The Instructional Designer EHR requires analyst certification or proficiency in Epic as well as demonstrated skills in maintaining the master patients and other associated training environment build requirements. Epic build activities may include management of the Epic Learning Home dashboards. The Designer will also be responsible for the credentialing of other trainers and oversight of the creation and management of resource and support materials for end users. The designer will serve as a performance consultant for designated areas of responsibility and to participate in department committees and one workgroup for the betterment of the team. This position will have Enterprise responsibilities and can be based anywhere. Routine travel to other sites is required.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in adult education, training and development, Human Resources, medical or related field required. Three to five years of related experience in training related field required. A master's degree in education, instructional design or related field is preferred. Demonstrated success in curriculum design and development. Knowledge and experience in developing relational and web-based databases is beneficial. Proficiency in standard productivity software, web-based authoring systems, graphics software and multimedia applications. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. Epic knowledge or experience preferred. Epic analyst certification required within 6 months from date of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to develop blended learning programs (in-person, asynchronous, and synchronous) tailored to clinical settings
- Strong organizational and tracking skills for maintaining resources, progress tracking, and alignment with quarterly system upgrades
- Ability to translate clinical and technical content into accessible and engaging learning experiences for healthcare staff
- Proficiency in instructional design tools such as, but not limited to Articulate and Camtasia
- This Instructional Designer position will focus on content related to desk roles, as well as HIMs. Epic Cadence experience and certification is preferred but not required
