Job Summary:
This individual will provide a full range of insured and client level underwriting and administrative support, analyzing risks of both PEO and Staffing insured’s and making decisions based on SUNZ Underwriting policies, guidelines and procedures. The underwriter takes a leadership role in the underwriting operations to better serve SUNZ insured’s and their clients. Requiring exceptional decision making, analytical and customer service skills, the underwriter shall expedite turnaround of submissions and inquiries. The position requires a minimum of 5 years underwriting experience. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary responsibility satisfactorily. Responsibilities: Receive, review and disseminate insured submissions and requests for consideration, acceptance and/ or declination, when applicable.
Communicate directly and clearly with insured’s to ensure timely responses are provided
Operate independently as respects priorities and deadlines
Timely bind, endorse, and terminate locations at the insured client level
Maintain and monitor internal systems, correspondence, and records for compliance
Work collaboratively with internal staff and insured’s, as well as broker & agency representatives
Maintain timely, relevant communications with the Manager of Underwriting Communication Skills: Effective with making complex technical information and recommendations understandable and clear to audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge Ability to clearly communicate Sunz Underwriting Guidelines and Processes. Listens effectively Clearly expresses ideas, recommendations, etc. in writing Articulates exposures and risk assessment requirements with Loss Control
Requirements:
Has a strong understanding of PEO/Staffing business models
Fully understands underwriting performance standards and measures
Knowledgeable in pricing both guaranteed cost and large deductible risks In depth working knowledge of reading and analyzing any format of insurance loss runs
Technical Expertise: Strong working knowledge on the application of workers comp codes (NCCI and Independent Bureau States).
Fully capable of articulating and defending pricing decisions on guaranteed cost business and large deductible risks.
Complete understanding of all Microsoft Office applications relevant for their area and navigates large volumes of loss data and creates presentable summaries.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of formulas and equations.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reviews loss information to identify basic trends and recommendations. Handles multiple assignments and schedules accordingly in order of importance.
Customer Service: Responds timely and succinctly with all communication Builds credibility with internal and external customers Creates customer satisfaction by demonstrating the value of risk management Familiar with the company tools and is comfortable reviewing with all levels of management.
Business Knowledge: Possesses an in depth understanding of the Workers’ Compensation line of coverage
Qualifications:
Education: AA degree or higher, and a minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in workers’ compensation insurance.
2-20 License is a plus Prior PEO/Staffing Experience is beneficial
