JOB SUMMARY

The Director Clinical Operations Planning as line manager manages multi-level roles of the Clinical Operations Planning Team globally. A creative and innovative individual who drives the medium to long term direction and strategy of the Operations Planning Team. Will manage the overall workload and work allocation of their direct reports. Has superb influencing and networking skills across senior leadership roles and other functions/departments to ensure deliverables for the Operations Planning Team are aligned with overall business objectives.

 

This is a strategic role that coordinates project planning and tracking related technical needs cross functionally for Study Start Up, Site Operations and Study Management in GSSO. Provides strategic leadership to form and represent business needs in a collaborative team across in-house teams (IM, Digital, Operational Analytics and Recruitment Strategy) as well as external software vendor teams to provide a best-in-class business planning and analytics platform what enables monitoring of all aspects of upcoming and current work in the portfolio including but not limited to planning, performance and compliance tracking.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads the Operations Planning Team that provides GSSO business support for technologies like Planisware and Salesforce, used as Pfizer clinical study start-up technologies.
  • Responsible for representing the business needs of the GSSO department and functional lines in the creation/maintenance of a best-in-class technological back bone for the Pfizer clinical study start-up process.
  • Provides cross-functional leadership, direction and consultancy for clinical study start-up technologies that provide planning and resource management capability
  • Responsible for providing a planning and resource management consultancy network to the GSSO department, with the goal of maximizing the utility of the clinical start-up technology ecosystem in achieving break through cycle times.
  • Strategic leadership of major workstreams across key stakeholders’ groups (Pfizer business, CROs, third party study vendors & software providers) to meet evolving business requirements of start-up systems
  • Responsible for providing an efficient access, training and support infrastructure to clinical study start-up technology users working in close co-operation with Pfizer IM, Digital and other groups
  • Accountable for oversight of PFE users and CROs for compliance, status and performance aspects of use of start-up technologies.
  • Perform expert administrator functions of the start-up technologies and cooperate with Process and Standards Team to implement mechanism and controls to maintain the business integrity.
  • Responsible for the ongoing partnership with key business stakeholders to build, maintain and update a suite of planning template libraries that align with business priorities.
  • Responsible for providing creative and responsive business analytics reporting environment for the GSSO department and key stakeholder groups regarding study start-up activity and resource management across multiple dimensions.
  • Technical liaison lead to partner with IM and Digital on systems technologies and drive GSSO Digital strategy.
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the Operations Planning team ensuring clinical study start-up technologies represent current best practice, intelligence and process standards.
  • Creates an extensive KPI framework and related goals to monitor and actively enforce compliance with key business rules for the use of clinical study start-up technologies.
  • Accountable for the identification, selection, development, performance management, mentoring/training, retention and engagement of the Clinical Operations Planning team members.
  • Actively develops and retains talent through providing focused career development, performance management, and an inclusive culture.
  • Contributes to an open communication environment to ensure the knowledge and expertise of GSSO resources are leveraged.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Experience of managing projects, deliverables and individuals across multiple countries within a matrix setting
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a large international corporation
  • Extensive global clinical trial/study management experience including knowledge of GCP
  • Demonstrated People management Experience, ability to lead and manage diverse team
  • Strong Organizational Skills

  • Business Acumen
  • Project Management Skills
  • Fluent in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree (MS/MBA, PhD) preferred
  • Experience managing complex projects and/or a consulting/auditing background within Pfizer are desirable

  • Reports to PRD GSSO Operations and Business Group Lead
  • Partners across Global Site and Study Operations roles, and other CD&O roles as needed
  • Liaises with senior colleagues in Information Management, Digital, OARS
  • Ensures GSSO Support and Organizational System maintenance
  • Manages team of Operational Planning professionals

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
