Solar Engineering Consultant

SCOPE OF POSITION:

As a Solar Engineering Consultant at ArcVera Renewables, a Bureau Veritas company, you will execute technical advisory and independent engineering services for solar energy projects globally. This remote position is ideal for a proactive and self-driven individual who will be responsible for conducting solar energy resource assessments, evaluating project designs, and supporting clients through all phases of the project lifecycle, from development to construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in solar PV system design, modeling, and commercial fundamentals, along with excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures timely and efficient completion, or oversight of the solar team’s work, delivering high-quality renewable energy analysis, including clear and concise written communication.
  • Conducts pre-construction, independent engineering (IE), and operational energy assessments, including due diligence, validation of engineering designs, and review of commercial contracts.
  • Reviews engineering designs and optimizes solar plant configurations to align with client requirements.
  • Perform solar energy resource assessments and analyze solar PV system designs, technologies, and commercial fundamentals.
  • Provide technical support for Independent Engineering (IE) and Lender’s Technical Advisor (LTA) services across multiple global projects.
  • Interpret and communicate technical aspects of commercial contracts, including interconnection, equipment supply, construction, and O&M agreements.
  • Identifies risks and opportunities related to technical designs (civil, geotechnical, electrical) and commercial agreements.
  • Analyzes project deals, assessing commercial risks associated with technical inputs and design.
  • Continuously supports the solar team by developing useful methodologies and mastering subject matter during downtime.
  • Contributes to and reviews deliverables, such as energy reports and technical analyses, ensuring accuracy and clarity for clients.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining company quality standards for solar energy projects.
  • Supports business development by meeting with clients, clearly explaining technical details and project aspects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited institution.
  • Strong familiarity with solar resource modeling tools and methodologies.
  • 5+ years of experience in the solar sector with the ability to interpret relevant regulations, codes, and standards.
  • 5+ years of related industry experience in the power sector, particularly in the development, construction, or operations of plants, with a strong understanding of independent engineering practices.
  • Expertise in technical specifications which affect performance for solar modules, inverters, trackers, and other project components, with the ability to assess the legitimacy of technical specifications, claims, warranties, and commercial contract requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate subject matter experts (SMEs) to meet deadlines and client expectations.
  • Proficient in computer programming languages such as C#, Python, Julia, and others.
  • Willingness to travel as needed (25% or less) to solar sites, conferences, and events.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, with a technical undergraduate degree from an accredited university.
  • 7+ years of experience in the solar and renewable energy sector, including consulting experience and collaboration with/as an independent engineer.
  • Strong expertise in technical project finance, with a deep understanding of financial structures and their intersection with engineering.
  • Working knowledge of current PV technology, engineering and commercial contracts, with a specific focus on civil, electrical, or environmental engineering.
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise, demonstrated through a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, relevant codes, and industry standards.
  • Proven experience in analyzing periodic events, identifying and resolving performance issues, and providing support to clients in both buy-side and sell-side opportunities.
