Job description

Closing date: 25 November 2024

This is a unique opportunity to make a real impact in the fastest growing Council area in the country and to develop a diverse breadth of experience which you simply will not get anywhere else.

We’re looking for a passionate environmentalist to help us deliver improvements across our five operational centres in South Derbyshire and to make a positive environmental impact across our community of over 100,000 residents and businesses based in the heart of the national forest.

You’ll take lead responsibility for co-ordinating step changes in the Council’s environmental performance across functions such as waste collection services, our vehicle fleet and our public estate that includes our leisure centres, recreational sites and our stock of social housing.

All of these functions are covered by our ISO14001 certification which the Corporate Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining, as well as improving the Councils standards and approach.

You’ll also play a key role in helping us make everything that happens across the 130 square miles of South Derbyshire is carbon neutral by 2050 through supporting the delivery and expansion of our Climate and Environment Action Plan, which has recently been independently assessed as one of the best in the UK.

We offer flexible, remote working with career development and support along with a generous pension package and up to 32 days annual leave a year. Most importantly the position offers you the opportunity to shape the future of our Council and will provide a diversity of experience which very few other jobs can match.

You’ll be qualified to degree level in a relevant environmental science. We’d ideally like someone with good knowledge and experience of implementing ISO14001 or other environmental management systems and working with UK environmental law.

You’ll have excellent influencing, communication and organisation skills with a real drive to make a difference both to our organisation and local community.

Should you wish to discuss this role informally, please call Karen Collier, Head of Environmental Services on 01283 595856.
