ABOUT THE ROLE

Our team ensures that reliability and performance of both internal and externally visible systems match users' needs, while facilitating a fast rate of improvement. We use a mix of open source, SaaS, and internally developed tools to manage and support our services life cycle (deploy, configure, upgrade, monitor, optimize).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform and automate deployment, maintenance, and upgrades across a fleet of servers and devices
  • Maintain live services by monitoring performance indicators such as availability, throughput, and latency
  • Grow systems by advocating for changes that enhance reliability, performance, and serviceability
  • Work closely with development team members to design and deploy new services using various deployment environments including containers and packages, on both cloud and on-prem.
  • You will be working with technologies like Cassandra, PostgreSQL, Mosquitto, Redis, SaltStack, Ansible, Kafka, MQTT, LAMP, Git, GCE, GKE, AWS, Kubernetes (GKE, k3s), RHEL
  • Develop production flows and CD processes for deployment of software and infrastructure systems at scale

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

We believe you enjoy working in a purpose-driven organization and that you thrive in an environment where you need to find creative solutions to challenging problems in a fast-changing context. This also means that you are effective at managing multiple tasks of varying complexities and are driven by continuous learning and growth. Specifically, we are looking for an IT Systems Engineer with the following toolbox:

  • 7+ years of working experience with Linux, using the GNU/Linux command line, scripting, Linux tools and services
  • extensive hands-on experience with RHEL and variants (CentOS, ALMA Linux, Rocky)
  • extensive hands-on experience with IP networking, its hardware components (routers, switches) and its relevant Linux services such as DHCP, DNS, Routing, NAT, Firewalling, VPNs, VLANs, Web Servers, Forward and Reverse Proxys
  • working experience with bare metal server systems such as HPE and out-of-band management tools such as iLO, IPMI etc.
  • working experience with Ansible configuration management
  • working experience with storage technologies such as RAID, LVM, SAN etc.
  • strong scripting skills (Bash, Python)
  • university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar disciplines
  • 3+ years of working experience with Docker and Kubernetes operations
  • working experience with virtualization technologies (KVM, QEMU, libVirt) for creation, deployment and management of Virtual Machines and their network and storage components.
  • working experience with monitoring tools (Zabbix, Prometheus, Datadog, or others)
  • working experience with modern IT security standards and practices (ISO27001), as well as authentication and access procedures (LDAP, PKI)
  • working experience with DB administration (Postgres, Cassandra, Redis)
  • application deployment experience in one or more of the following: Java, Go, Python
  • a good team player, eager to distribute knowledge, able to work with minimal supervision

We see it as an extra plus if:

  • You have professional certifications such as LFCS, LFCE, RHCSA, RHCE
  • You have experience with modern SRE practices
  • You have experience working in a fully remote team and be able to embrace the remote first way of work, its advantages, limitations and responsibilities.
  • You have experience with cloud environments (GCP, AWS)
  • You see and appreciate the value of documenting your solutions for others to use
  • You want to help us improve our systems and processes and contribute to other teams and the product
  • You like to learn how things work and troubleshooting issues to their root cause
  • You prefer uniformity and repeatability over quick "clever" hacks
  • You do not like bias towards good and evil tech, but have sound technical arguments for your opinions
  • You are not afraid to embrace new ways to do things, even if they have a steep learning curve
  • You sometimes wonder about the nature of elegant solutions, i.e., the compromise between readability, extensibility, resilience, simplicity, and time
