Job Description

Wood is recruiting for an Instrument Maintenance Engineer to join the team in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea on a 10x3 resident basis.

The postholder will be responsible for providing comprehensive Maintenance Instrumentation Engineering support and maintenance recommendations to ensure the integrity, reliability and availability of the Offshore field & Onshore Gas Plant instrumentation equipment and systems in compliance with the Company’s Responsible Operation Management System as well as all Company Health, Environment and Safety Policies. The focus of this position will be on Instrumentation Maintenance as opposed to design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead any investigations into equipment trips/failures defining actions to be taken to resolve the issue. Managing these actions to completion
  • Act as technical Instrumentation Maintenance engineer for the Offshore field and Onshore Gas plant for all work associated with the recovery, commissioning and startup of equipment.
  • Knowledgeable on pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters along with PLCs and the ability calibrate instrumentation
  • Monitor the overall effectiveness of the reliability program for the asset instrumentation by capturing and analyzing reliability data for critical equipment/systems, thereby developing a good understanding of the overall effectiveness of the Preventive Maintenance Program
  • Work with Maintenance Supervisors (Onshore & Offshore) to planned maintenance work – continual optimization of predictive and preventative maintenance strategies based on equipment history/condition based monitoring capabilities to the extent reasonably practical
  • Signing off on hand over documentation following repair work or engineering project activities
  • Conducts Instrumentation related Equipment surveys and As built relevant drawings to reflect field installation on Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Work with information management to insure all instrument documentation (loop diagrams, one lines etc) are as built and all project documents archived
  • Review existing proposed work scope (reactive, planned, upgrades and develop a business case for either doing these or rejecting them)
  • Taking ownership of technical issues and working these through to completion
  • Support the workforce development efforts by personally committing to actively participate in the mentoring and coaching activities designed to enhance the skills, competencies, and performance of the young engineers
  • Advise in the development and oversee operation of equipment performance and obsolescence
  • Develop procedures and standards with Onshore & Offshore teams sustaining integrity and reliability, working closely with the I&E Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Engineers
  • Initiate and suggest equipment and/or system changes for improvement
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience of testing, monitoring, maintenance and trouble-shooting on instrumentation components
  • Sound understanding of both practical and theoretical concepts of plant maintenance
  • Thorough knowledge of international standards for the design, manufacture and testing of all instrumentation equipment including applicable API standards, ANSI/ISA and best Instrumentation practices
  • Ability to technically support trouble-shoot and assist to resolve new problems
  • Sound interpersonal, communication and IT skills to communicate well at levels including management, maintenance and operation of a Production Unit
  • Ability to produce soundly presented technical reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Controls Engineering
  • Extensive experience of operational, solid instrument maintenance engineering work
  • Sound experience and practical knowledge of:
    • Fire and gas systems
    • Troubleshooting
    • Obsolescence of materials & spares
    • Pneumatics
    • Chromatographs
    • RCA (root cause analysis)
  • Experience in a direct support role of plant operations in the process, petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, of which some of the years may have been in an electrical Engineer position
  • Experience working in an expatriate environment and dealing with various country culture
  • Familiar with Microsoft compatible systems and Microsoft support software, planning/scheduling software and SAP MP1.
  • Proficient in English, written and spoken.
