Senior Editor and Writer, Retail & Ecommerce Newsletter

We’re hiring a Senior Editor/Writer to take the editorial lead on our daily Retail & Ecommerce Briefing.

The Role & Team:

EMARKETER’s Briefings are a suite of subscription newsletters authored by industry analysts, reaching tens of thousands of business professionals, primarily within the marketing and advertising industries, every day. We’re looking for a seasoned editor to shape our coverage of Retail & Ecommerce and write weekly articles about major retail and ecommerce trends. This role offers a great opportunity to straddle the media and research industries, and learn about the latest technology shaping the world around us. 

As a Senior Editor, you will lead the editorial direction of short-form content centered around the news, trends, and technologies changing the rules of the game in Retail & Ecommerce—everything from big-box retailers and holiday shopping trends to grocery delivery and consumers’ shifting shopping habits.

The Senior Editor and Writer reports directly to the Director of Editing, Briefings. This position is based in our New York City HQ with an expected in-office presence of at least 2 days per week.

The Ideal Candidate is:

• Passionate about Retail & Ecommerce and knowledgeable enough of the major trends driving the digital transformation of these industries to pitch innovative story ideas—some grounded in data, others aligned with major industry news. 
• Data driven with the ability to quickly sort through masses of data, find interesting trends, and convey them in a digestible way.
• A superb project manager with the organizational skills to help our team stay on deadline in a fast-paced environment.
• An exceptional explainer with a knack for figuring out what’s most important in business news and communicating it simply and concisely.
• Team oriented, who thrives in a fast-paced and rapidly changing collaborative environment.
• An innovator who isn’t afraid to challenge ideas to make our content better, explore untapped content opportunities, and ideate and execute new content concepts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day operations of the Retail & Ecommerce Briefing, including assigning, approving, and writing stories; editing content; and writing headlines.
• Pitch and produce insightful articles, expressing strong opinions on what the latest retail and ecommerce news means for marketing and advertising professionals.
• Ensure the delivery of quality, forward-looking analysis to our clients. 
• Collaborate with the Director of Briefings Editing to shape our Retail & Ecommerce coverage and content strategy, and develop our Briefings products to make them need-to-have for our clients.
• Enforce the EMARKETER editorial guidelines, editing for style/tone, high-level substance, argument, and copy/grammar.
• Generate, develop, and execute ideas for other special editorial assignments.
• Monitor content engagement and use data to inform content strategy.

Desired Skills & Experience:

• Professional experience editing and writing content for a Retail & Ecommerce audience. 
• Knowledge of the major Retail & Ecommerce trends and a robust understanding of the landscape—bonus if you’re knowledgeable of these trends in global markets.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with daily deadlines and quick turnaround times.
• Experience using metrics to evaluate strategic thinking. Bonus if you have a background in working with email metrics.
• Strong logical reasoning ability and data literacy.
• Exceptional editing, time management, and communication skills.
• Experience with data visualization tools is a plus.

Salary & Benefits:

• Base salary: $85,000 - $100,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
