About the New Ventures & Business Development Teams
The Business Development team is focused on expanding the growth of our business by developing and growing partnerships throughout our marketplace. Within Business Development, our New Ventures team is responsible for seeding and incubating new “bets” that will drive the future growth of Thumbtack. The New Ventures team works closely with different cross functional partners in business development, product, sales, success, marketing, etc. to stand up and deploy new bets and capabilities.
About the Role
The Manager of New Ventures and Partnerships reports to the Head of New Ventures in the Business Development organization. This individual contributes to the New Ventures team in two key ways. First, they will independently manage a new vertical strategy. They will lead a team of cross-functional partners to ensure that the joint goals and objectives of the company and its partners are met and exceeded. Second, they will support the Head of New Ventures to drive major strategic partnerships forward, from strategy to execution.
Your Responsibilities
- For your select vertical, independently ‘GM’ the strategy and execution of new vertical partnerships, including developing OKRs and KPIs to measure our success in the work you lead
- Develop and execute data-informed product and GTM strategies in your vertical.
- Lead a cross-functional ‘pod’ to develop, test, and refine pilot programs to prove your vertical strategies and inform the future of your vertical.
- Partner with partners and Thumbtack product and engineering teams to inform near and long-term product roadmap to widen the aperture of addressable verticals
- For major strategic partnerships, support the Head of New Ventures and Partnerships in driving partnerships forward, from strategy to execution
- Travel to internal company meetings, partners, and conferences required throughout the year; approximately 10 - 20% of your working time.
What you’ll need

- 5+ years in business development, business strategy and operations, partnerships in a startup, high-growth tech company, or management consulting environment
- Comfort being at the intersection of product and go-to-market strategy, operations, business development, and technology
- Ability to autonomously design, create, and deliver results and presentations for senior and executive leadership with minimal supervision
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with external and cross functional partners
- Strong command of the following technologies: Google Suite (Sheets, Gmail, Slides, Process visualization tools, Project Management technologies (e.g., Asana), Slack, Zoom
Bonus points if you have
- Experience designing products for and/ or selling into the real estate industry, including brokers, agents, lenders, and others in the ecosystem (e.g., Proptech, MLS)
- Experience working for a company offering services through an online Marketplace
- Understanding of API and technology tools
- Comfort working in a highly entrepreneurial environment and building new processes from the ground up, being okay with the unpredictable

For candidates living in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros, the expected salary range for the role is currently $119,00 - $154,000. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
For candidates living in all other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is currently $101,150 - $130,900. Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
