Job Summary
The Regional Health & Safety Specialist - Western region, reporting to the Vice President of Regional Operations (West), is responsible for providing support and guidance in all matters related to Health and Safety for distribution centers throughout Western Canada. This includes the navigation, coordination and deployment of Occupational Health and Safety programs, corporate Health and Safety programs and provincial Health and Safety legislation. This role collaborates and coordinates with the corporate Health & Safety team and the OHS claims management team to promote overall wellness and to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all Distribution Centre employees.
Specific Responsibilities
Implement and oversee McKesson Canada’s Occupational Health & Safety program across Distribution Centres in Western Canada in collaboration with Health and Safety committees in each DC
Ensure implementation and compliance of McKesson Canada Health & Safety policies and procedures in collaboration with DC Health and Safety committees and leadership teams
Partner with DC Health and Safety committees and leadership as well as alternate Stakeholders including corporate security, human resources, as well as risk management to ensure that all wellness and safety risks are proactively mitigated
Promote an occupational Health & Safety culture and provide senior technical expertise and consultation to management and DC H&S committees on Health & Safety prevention issues
Participate in investigations, follow-ups and root-cause analysis of significant safety incidents
Develop and maintain good relationships with prevention safety agencies and respond to agency inquiries and inspections as required
When required, develop external supplier agreements to standardize OHS related purchases (personal protection equipment and first-aid supplies) in response to internal client needs, in collaboration with other Stakeholders
Coordinate and lead periodic audits, evaluations, and inspections to identify unsafe conditions and practices, follow up to ensure deficiencies are corrected within designated time frames
Identify and monitor internal/ external market trends and provide recommendations, in collaboration with Corporate Health and Safety team
Assess, develop, and coordinate and facilitate required training for all stakeholders for wellness and Health & Safety programs
Use statistical reporting tools, provided by the Global Security team, to identify trends and issues requiring attention in order to improve wellness and safety programs.
Key Requirements
3 to 5 years of experience in OHS with a minimum of 2 years in a coordination role in a similar position
Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent industry experience
Recognized Study/Certification in OHS and/or Human Resources
Knowledge and experience in implementing and managing OHS programs in Western Canada
Knowledge of Health Canada’s GMP Regulations an asset
Approximate travel of 30% throughout Western Canada and ability to work during various shifts to accommodate distribution center needs
Strong analytical skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Proven ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure
Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities
Strong communication, teamwork and collaboration capabilities
Able to work under minimum supervision and act as a team player
Organizational, management and project delivery skills
Action-oriented, detail-oriented individual with high accountability and solid judgement
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing business conditions and priorities.
