Job description

Stambaugh Ness (SN) is a multi-discipline, professional services firm serving clients nationally with a strategic focus on architecture and engineering, professional services, construction and real estate, and manufacturing industries. 

As an Audit Manager, Government Contract within our Assurance team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the audit engagements related to government contracts and providing assurance services to our clients.

This role needs a strong understanding of government regulations, compliance requirements, and auditing standards, along with excellent communication and leadership skills. The Audit Manager will lead a team of auditors and work closely with clients to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements and compliance with government contract terms. 

This is a remote position that can work from anywhere within the United States.

What you’ll do at SN:

  • Manage communications between clients and the firm to ensure engagement objectives are met by all parties.
  • Provide guidance and expertise to ensure that engagement risks are identified, and appropriate responses (including specific audit steps) are taken.
  • Facilitate timely resolutions to complex Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 31 issues.
  • Perform FAR audits and ensure client deliverables are provided in a timely manner.
  • Effectively communicate with the Managing Director and clients by providing timely status updates. 
  • Attend, engage, and network at national and regional conferences.
  • Be a “key impact player” to multiple clients.
  • Mentor and develop associates by providing timely guidance, reviews and providing feedback on associates’ performance. 

What you may have done before:

  • Worked at a public accounting firm doing FAR audits and working with State Departments of Transportation.
  • Worked at an Engineering or Architecture firm within the Finance/Accounting Department
  • Worked for a Federal Agency such as the DCAA or GSA.

What it takes to be an Audit Manager:

  • 5+ years’ experience in public accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA or EA is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 31 (Contract Cost Principles and Procedures) and the AASHTO Audit Guide
  • Experience working with State Departments of Transportation is strongly preferred
  • Experience within Finance/Accounting departments at Engineering or Architecture Firms or a Federal Agency (such as the DCAA or GSA) is strongly preferred
  • Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead and develop staff
  • External audit experience

  • Stage 3 (Behavioral Interview & Senior Manager & Director Interview) with a member of our HR team and 2 interviews with a Director and Senior Manager on the Assurance Team

Salary: The salary range for this position is an estimate of $105,000 - $165,000. A final compensation offer within this range will be based on factors including an individual’s skill sets, experience, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and geography.
