About the role
We’re looking for an Underwriter I, Commercial Lines, to join the team in our Edmonton, AB office.
What you'll do here:
- Participate In broker visits, Insurance Industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
- Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
- Make recommendations to improve the department processes and increase efficiency.
- Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions
- Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies
- Provides technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members
- Assess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate risks.
What you bring to the table:
- 1 to 2 years of relevant Commercial Lines underwriting experience preferred
- Strong sales and customer service skills
- CIP designated or actively working towards it
- Maintain a current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto
- Demonstrate the ability to handle moderate risks
- Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
- Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
- Initiative and ability to work under pressure
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
- No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
