About PRES

The Pacific Recovery Economic Support (PRES) program is a DFAT funded program which was established in 2021 to respond to the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Pacific.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic re-shaped Australia’s engagement in the Pacific creating new challenges, and new demands. The PRES program makes technical expertise and support readily available to improve the effectiveness of DFAT’s economic response and recovery investments in the Pacific.

PRES acts as an operational hub, identifying emerging advisory support needs, recommending solutions, undertaking recruitment processes, and providing induction and oversight to advisers. The PRES program supports the development of strategy, design and evaluation of aid activities in sectors including:

  • Economic and fiscal governance
  • Financial sector
  • Private sector development
  • Trade and investment
  • Labour mobility and education
  • Agriculture and food security
  • Aviation and tourism
  • Digital economy and telecommunications and others.

Position Summary

The Advisory Services Coordinator (ASC) is a key role in the PRES Core Team and will support the management of PRES activities. The ASC will work closely with the PRES Core Team, DFAT-Office of the Pacific (OTP), and PRES technical advisors to ensure that PRES activities are implemented effectively and efficiently.

As a key member of the PRES team, the ASC will have strong management and organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines. The ASC will be an excellent communicator, capable of expressing the program’s vision and desired outcomes through a range of formats and with a variety of stakeholders. The ASC will be willing to travel regularly to Canberra as required.

Duties and responsibilities

The ASC will work closely with DFAT-OTP, delivery partners and PRES core team staff to oversee and manage PRES tasking notes.

The responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Assisting the PRES team to refine the scope and outputs of PRES activities.
  • Overseeing and managing select activities that operate under the PRES program as agreed with the Deputy Program Director.
  • Working with PRES Core Team members to ensure GEDSI, climate change and other cross-cutting areas are integrated in the design of activities.
  • Engaging with consultants as required throughout activity implementation.
  • Managing the PRES activities tracker.
  • Supporting learning and development within the program, including on the PRES Hub to ensure DFAT has access to up-to-date information.
  • Supporting the team to ensure that the Program’s recruitment and procurement practices facilitate diversity in personnel and the supply chain.
  • Representing the Program at meetings, workshops and other external events where appropriate.

Reporting Requirements

The ASC will:

  • Report to the PRES Deputy Program Director on a day-to-day basis.
  • Participate in regular core team meetings and contribute to activity-level decision making under the Program.

The position requires an Adviser Performance Assessment on an annual basis.

Commitment: the ASC will be contracted on a full-time (open to part-time) basis and is expected to fill the role for the remainder of the PRES program.
