Job description

Acre is supporting a global nonprofit organization, a standards body and thought leader that promotes the best that can be achieved in climate and development projects, in the recruitment of a Director of Assurance and Review Management. The preferred location for this role is the UK, Germany, and India.

The organization was established in 2003 as a best practice standard to ensure projects that reduced carbon emissions under the UN's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) also delivered sustainable development benefits. Today, the organisation's standard allows climate and development initiatives within carbon markets, corporate supply chains, and sustainable finance to manage, measure and maximise their impacts toward the Net Zero ambition of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.

THE ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Senior Director of Standard Development and Innovation, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the assurance services management, ensuring it meets the highest industry standards, and driving its success in the marketplace.

You will be responsible for managing, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation's project review process, planning regular training for the team, supporting ongoing efforts to track validation/verification bodies (VVB) performance, managing and retaining a high-performing team, supporting professional development and promotion within the team, contributing to revisions and approvals of standard certification methodologies, rules and procedures.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

As Director of Assurance and Review Management, you will be responsible for overseeing the assurance and review management process. You will lead a high-performing team to ensure timely and quality project reviews. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting, managing, and retaining a high-performing team: You will oversee the hiring process, manage employee performance, and provide support and guidance to team members as needed. You will ensure that your team has the necessary resources and skills to meet project deadlines and deliver quality results, as well as supporting professional development.
  • Managing and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the project review process: You will develop and implement best practices for project management, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations for process changes as needed. You will ensure that projects are processed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Planning regular training for the team: You will identify training needs, develop training materials, and facilitate training sessions as needed.
  • Supporting ongoing efforts to track VVB performance and improve the quality of their audits: You will work with VVBs to identify areas for improvement, monitor their performance over time, and provide guidance and support as needed. You will ensure that VVBs deliver high-quality audits that meet industry standards.
  • Identifying innovation opportunities: You will keep an eye on new trends and technologies to identify opportunities to improve processes and activities in the assurance process. You will explore digital solutions to streamline processes and increase efficiency where possible.
  • Contributing to draft revisions and approvals of methodologies and program rules and procedures relevant to the energy and industrial sector: You will work with stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, draft new policies and procedures as needed, and present these changes for approval. You will ensure that the standard certification maintains robust, workable and impactful programs.
  • Serving as a subject-matter expert to the team and the standard certification more broadly: You will stay up to date on industry trends and best practices, share knowledge and resources with team members, and represent the organization at industry events as needed.
  • Representation at relevant industry conferences, workshops, and events: You will present on behalf of the organization, network with industry professionals, and stay up to date on industry news and trends. You will ensure that the organisation is visible and engaged in the industry.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to ensure their views and feedback are incorporated into the assurance process: You will build relationships with stakeholders, seek their input and feedback, and work with the team to incorporate this feedback into project plans and processes.

YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in assurance and certification of activities under carbon market mechanisms.
  • Expertise in sustainable development and carbon markets.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of managing high-performing teams.
  • Knowledge of project management best practices and experience implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to stay up to date on industry trends and best practices, and to apply this knowledge to improve the assurance processes.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
