About the role:
As the Senior Publisher, you will manage high-complexity publishing partner relationships through contractual lifecycles, including the renewal of partner contracts. The Senior Publisher engages with external partners to ensure that our open access strategy is understood and that mutual success is achieved through strategic alignment as measured by various metrics. In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of external reporting and end-to-end publishing services from submission through to publication as well as title level business growth through collaboration with internal colleagues across multiple publishing units, including but not limited to author support, journal editor management, and corporate sales.
How you will make an impact:
Partner Management
- Manage diverse portfolio of ongoing complex relationships with partners such as learned societies, universities, and hospitals through various communication channels and reporting tools.
- Ensure through excellent, regular communication that partners are aligned with our strategy around journal growth and open access.
- Assist Publishers with aspects of multi-faceted portfolios as required.
- Renew journal publishing agreements by developing business offers with senior colleagues and colleagues in finance; assist in delivering comprehensive renewal proposals; and collaborate with colleagues in the negotiation of contracts.
Colleague Collaboration
- Lead collaboration with other internal publishing teams to deliver smooth service and title level business growth.
- Achieve partner compliance with journal process improvements through ongoing communication and persuasion.
- Identify and facilitate new business opportunities for partner titles.
Projects and Team Development
- Facilitate cross-departmental synergies by leading or participating in projects aligned to ways of working, or projects focused on facilitating Research Publishing strategies and objectives.
What we are looking for:
- Prior relevant industry experience and in-depth knowledge and excellent understanding of journal publishing; both at operational and strategic level.
- In-depth experience in managing complex partner relationships.
- High level of understanding of commercial trends in publishing.
- Highly skilled communicator with strong organizational skills.
- Able to explain and communicate complex issues and concepts in research and research publishing, and negotiate to adopt a different point of view.
- Excellent understanding of major industry trends and how they impact Wiley and our partners.
- Able to lead on how to get buy-in from external partners for changes required to improve strategic alignment.
