TITLE: Director of Cloud Database Administration

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:  

The Director of Cloud DBA is a pivotal leadership role at Duck Creek Technologies, responsible for overseeing the database administration strategy in a cloud environment. This role involves managing a team of database administrators, ensuring the security, performance, and reliability of database services, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, as to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our applications. and driving innovation in database management to support the company’s dynamic needs. 

  • Leads and supervises team(s) and assumes people management responsibilities including, but not limited to, the management of direct reports, and applicable subordinate team members, setting performance objectives, and conducting annual performance reviews. 

  • Lead the development and implementation of cloud database strategies.  

  • Manage and mentor a team of cloud database administrators; Develops staff members through coaching and fostering of a positive work environment. 

  • Ensure the security, integrity, and high availability of databases; Designs and manages SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems. 

  • Oversee database performance tuning, optimization, and scalability efforts.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support database needs for various projects.  

  • Provides leadership to the team and builds a culture of accountability to meet business objectives and goals.  

  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of database processes. 

  • Manage vendor relationships and database licensing agreements. 

  • Develop and enforce database administration policies and procedures. 

  • Monitor industry trends and advancements in cloud database technologies. 

  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements. 

  • Manage budgeting and forecasting for database-related expenses. 

  • Provide leadership in disaster recovery planning and execution for databases. 

  • Partners with product teams to provide strategic recommendations to maximize the value and efficiency of how databases interact in test, QA, and production environments. 

  • Uses various tools to provide the organization with a future-state view of database architecture and performance requirements. 

  • Assists data and analytics leaders, business and Business Technology leadership in developing information governance processes and structures. 

  • Improves application performance through enterprise information solutions and capabilities, such as master data management (MDM), metadata management, analytics, content management, data integration, and related information management or information infrastructure components. 

 

WHAT YOU’VE DONE:  

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Engineering and/or equivalent experience relevant to functional area 

  • 7+ years proven experience managing cloud-based database environments 

  • 5+ years in supervisory and/or strategic leadership 

 

KNOLWEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & BEHAVIORS: 

  • Strong leadership and people management skills. 

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud database technologies, SQL Server, and architectures. 

  • Expertise in database security best practices. 

  • Experience with data management and analytics in cloud and hybrid environments. 

  • Experience with complex and fast paced Cloud migration projects. 

  • Business acumen and the ability to communicate to executives, business domain stakeholders and technical staff alike. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. 

  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality. 

  • Ability to organize and plan work independently. 

  • Demonstrated influence, communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

Travel: 0-10% 

Location: Remote Poland
