Job Description

We are looking for experienced Principal Engineers to help us enhance and strengthen our Big Data Services and scale to much larger customers. They should be able to function well in a large geographically distributed team and have the hunger to drive for impactful results on established schedules. At Oracle, you can help, shape, design, and build innovative new systems from the ground up. These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious new initiatives. Engineers at any level can have significant technical and business impact.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual with experience in:

  • As an individual contributor, leading engineering teams that have delivered successful products and services.
  • Hands on involvement in feature development – This individual will indirectly influence several junior engineers to have a multiplier effect.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior talent.
  • Strong partnering and cross team communication skills as our service needs to integrate with a number of partner teams.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to make prudent decisions on solutions to deep and complex technical challenges.
  • Experience on one or more systems like Apache Spark, Apache Hive, Kafka, Trino, Flink and other related systems with a focus enabling high-performance.


Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or Bachelor's degree and additional experience) in Computer Sciences or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in software development.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading teams on solving complex distributed system problems.
  • Experience in software design and coding in a modern programming language.
  • Experience developing distributed systems and understanding of scale, security, reliability and performance.
  • Experience with larger projects (large codebases)
  • Experience with open-source software in the Big Data ecosystem
  • Experience at an organization with strong operational/dev-ops culture
  • Expertise in coding in Java, Scala with emphasis on tuning/optimization

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 - $251,600 per year. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
