Reporting to the Senior Director of Data Science the Data Science Manager will be expected to provide leadership for Data Science application development including new product enablement and application enhancement. The Manager will be responsible for supporting one of Availity’s core products and leading all aspects of the Data Science development life cycle for that product. This includes design, prototyping, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of advanced statistical and machine learning solutions.

This individual will also be responsible for the development and translation of business requirements into functional specifications for internal and external clients.  They anticipate and analyze new trends in technology, assess the impact of emerging technologies on the business, provide solutions to address technology and business issues, and manage financial and technology resources of the company while ensuring the development of high-quality technology solutions. The manager will be the primary liaison between the data science development team and all other business groups including engineering, information management, product management, product services, and senior management and will be called upon to serve in multiple roles in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial corporate environment.

The role’s responsibilities to include hiring, goal setting, appraisal, development, and day-to-day coaching. The role will also be required to carry out other duties, projects, or activities as specified by their management.

Role qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field of study
  • 8 years of experience in analytic application development which includes people and financial management responsibilities
  • 5 years of experience in managing analytics teams and building relationships with people at a variety of organizational levels
  • 3 years of hands-on experience in developing analytics solutions, preferably in areas of healthcare Data Science
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills- ability to lead a team and present a compelling business case
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies
  • Understanding of Data Science and machine learning development methodologies, application design, and information architecture

  • Managing diverse requirements, negotiate, and effectively articulate rationale and vision behind technical decisions that support the business
  • Partnering closely with Product, Engineering and Design leadership to drive impact throughout the product development process with research and data
  • Advocating, evangelizing, and implementing modern Data Science and engineering practices
  • Traveling to meet with internal and external stakeholders on a monthly cadence
