Job description

The Opportunity:

Are you a skilled and customer-focused professional with a passion for technical excellence? Avantor is looking for a dynamic Field Service Engineer to join our team in the United Kingdom.

Location: Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, North England - travel UK-wide.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be essential in ensuring the optimal performance of laboratory equipment. Your duties will include installation, preventative maintenance, repairs, and calibrations, all delivered efficiently and promptly.

Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30/8 am – 4 pm (flexible)

Role: Provide comprehensive technical support for designated equipment, including installation, preventative maintenance, repair, and calibration. Focus on customer requirements, offering professional advice when needed, and promoting products and service contracts whenever possible.

What we’re looking for

Qualifications:

  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in technical services or a similar field.
     

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Full clean driving license.
  • Strong background in field service or technical support within a high-value electrical capital equipment environment.
  • Excellent customer-facing skills.
  • Flexibility to move between different client sites.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills.
  • Up-to-date with technical developments in the area of expertise.

How you will thrive and create an impact

  • Perform high-standard servicing and repair of products.
  • Repair and calibrate instruments and products as necessary.
  • Install and commission products in the company portfolio.
  • Prepare calibration reports and certificates.
  • Respond promptly to technical enquiries and resolve issues to customer satisfaction.
  • Generate leads for sales and service revenue while in the field.
  • Collaborate with the Service Manager on field issues.
  • Set and own goals in conjunction with the Department Manager as per VWR PMP process.
  • Cross-train team members in specific areas of expertise.
  • Demonstrate strong fault-finding abilities.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Reporting: The Field Service Engineer will report directly to their Engineer Team Lead, who reports to the Service Manager.

Environmental Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

  • Field-based role split between home and client site visits.
  • Regular use of visual display equipment and driving required.
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities and R&T buildings.
  • Possible international travel.
  • Some physical effort required, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting, or carrying objects up to 20kg.
  • Daily movement of equipment, machinery, and supplies may involve heavy lifting.
