Job description

Overview:

Memorial Blood Centers (MBC.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1948. We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 30 area hospitals and more than a dozen air ambulances with life-saving blood—from our community, for our community. 

Responsibilities:

Summary:

This position involves donor screening, customer service, and whole blood collection. All protocols are clearly documented and taught using inclusive and recurring training sessions. A phlebotomist in this position might work at a fixed donor center location or at various community sites via mobile blood drives and will work with a variety of donors each shift. 

$2500 Sign on Bonus!

 

Schedule: Variable schedule - Monday - Friday with rotating weekends.  May be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. -9:00 p.m as well as some overnight travel

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Assess and document vitals of presenting donors to determine eligibility.
  2. Perform blood collection (phlebotomy) in accordance with applicable policies and safety procedures.
  3. Provide excellent customer service and pre/post donation care as needed.
  4. Assist with the setup of community blood drives including the safe loading/unloading of mobile units.
  5. Perform cleaning tasks, including equipment cleaning.
  6. Ensure accuracy, acceptability, and completeness of documentation to prevent loss of units.
  7. Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Local travel. Must have reliable transportation to and from work assignments 
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts
  • Preferred: Specialized training beyond high school such as phlebotomy, nursing assistant, medial assistant, EMT or one year of college coursework
