In 2023, Rylee + Cru entered a long-term growth partnership with Permanent Equity, an investment firm that commits for the long haul (30 years), aiming to build upon the brand’s rich heritage and expand its reach.

The Opportunity:
Rylee & Cru is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Wholesale Sales to lead their wholesale growth efforts. The newly created Director position will focus on developing and executing a strategic sales plan to drive growth and expand Rylee & Cru’s presence in the domestic market, expanding their reach beyond the children's boutique market into new retail segments, including gift stores, home goods stores, resorts, and more. 

As the Director of Wholesale Sales, you will be responsible for developing and executing a sales strategy that drives revenue growth, strengthens their market position, and builds a cohesive, high-performing sales team. You will play a critical role in shaping Rylee + Cru’s next chapter of growth, balancing hands-on sales efforts with strategic planning to unlock new opportunities. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong, lasting relationships with their wholesale customers. This role is key to driving business growth and bringing wholesale to the next professional level and offers a chance to work with a fast growing brand known for its timeless, whimsical aesthetic and high-quality craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Wholesale Sales Growth: Willingness to be a player-coach, actively participating in trade shows, building relationships with key accounts, and directly engaging in sales activities alongside your team with the goal of driving wholesale sales growth.
  • Strategic Vision & Execution: Identify high-value opportunities and prioritize them effectively. You’ll craft a comprehensive sales playbook that expands R+C’s presence in untapped markets and then train your team to run it.
  • Brand Representation: Ensure brand consistency and positioning across all channels. Partner with the marketing team to develop promotional strategies and brand campaigns that support sales objectives.
  • Team Management & Leadership: Guide, coach, and elevate the current team of account managers (4 FTEs). Develop a strategic playbook for the team, helping them become more proactive in outreach and sales.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with specialty store owners and buyers, with a focus on personalized and proactive outreach.
  • Inventory & Order Management: Collaborate with the product and logistics teams to optimize inventory levels and ensure timely order fulfillment for all retail partners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with merchandising, marketing, product development, and finance teams to align on product assortments, pricing strategies, and promotional activities.

  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience in retail (apparel) and wholesale industry. 
  • Experience attending apparel/gifting/resort/etc. industry trade shows (eg. Playtime, Atlanta Gift Expo, Surf Expo, etc.)
  • A strong network of domestic specialty stores, with a track record of growing brand presence in those.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize the brand, and foster meaningful connections rather than relying solely on showrooms or mass marketing.
  • Passion for high-quality, well-crafted products and the ability to convey this to both the team and clients.
  • Track record of scaling a sales function in a growth-focused environment.
  • Hands-on, player-coach mentality with the ability to develop and lead a team, as well as contribute at an individual level.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to adapt quickly.
  • Entrepreneurial and adaptable.
  • Familiar with trade show dynamics and new market penetration strategies.
  • Knowledge of NuOrder is a plus.
  • Proactive, motivated, and willing to spend facetime with buyers to build and nurture relationships.
  • Understanding of the brand/aesthetic and excited to grow the brand.
  • Proven history of meeting sales goals, managing expectations and tracking results.
  • A strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Required to travel up to 50% of the time (mostly during trade show seasons Jan-Feb and then again July-September)
