Description

The primary focus of this position is to effectively support volunteers (Bigs) OR families (Youth and their Caregivers) in all aspects of their mentoring experience in the Community Based program. The Community Based program matches youth with a caring adult mentor who they will meet with 2-4 times per month engaging in low-cost activities they are both interested in trying together. This position will call, email, text or meet in person with either the Big or the Little and their caregiver on a consistent basis to support in coaching, youth development principles, youth safety, and conflict management to ensure the relationship is safe, supportive, and intentional. This position spends the majority of their time in outreach and communication (primarily calls, email, and text) with their caseload.


BBBSTC is seeking adaptable and enthusiastic individuals dedicated to delivering high-quality customer service and maintaining meticulous documentation. We are seeking candidates who are available during evening and weekend hours. In addition, this position will support and staff BBBS program events throughout the year to meet with participants. These events are scheduled in advance for planning purposes.


Job Details

Location: Remote with expectation to attend at least two BBBS program events in Minneapolis, MN

Hiring Salary Range: $22.50 - $24.00/hour Starting rate will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role.

Hours per week: 10-20 hours - Primarily evenings and weekends. Flexible to your schedule and the needs of participants on your caseload.

Supervisor: Manager of Volunteer Match Support or Manager of Family Match Support


Essential Job Functions

  1. Provide personalized support and case management to participants matched in the community-based mentoring program.
  • Coordinate & facilitate engaging virtual match introduction meetings between volunteers, youth, and families. 
  • Collaborate with 2-3 other Match Support Coordinators to develop strategies to enhance match relationships and participant engagement. This includes meeting weekly to review matches.
  • Conduct monthly outreach with assigned participants, utilizing various communication methods including phone, email, text, and/or in person. 
  • During outreach with participants, assess the health of match relationships, focusing on child safety, relationship development, positive youth development, and participant satisfaction using the standards of practice established by BBBS.
  • Accurately document participant progress notes in the agency database in a timely manner.
  • Utilize technology to report, synthesize, and analyze data about the participant and match experience.
  • Coach participants and implement proactive interventions to address conflicts and barriers within match relationships. 
  • Connect participants with other staff, community resources, training opportunities, and referrals, as needed.

  • Handle data from youth, families, mentors, or other constituents with care, ensuring secure and private maintenance. 
  • Stay informed about community needs, resources, and networks. 
  • Collaborate with others to achieve goals outlined in the annual business plan. 
  • Honor and respect the diversity of lived experiences, fostering an inclusive and equitable environment within the organization.
  • Represent BBBS well in the broader community. 
  • Assist in agency-wide events and initiatives including recruitment, fundraising, event management, and community outreach.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field, or the following combination of experience in social work, counseling, social services, child development, or other related fields
  • Within 6 months of completing bachelor’s degree
  • AA degree and 4 years relevant work experience
  • No degree, 8 years of relevant work experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in assessment writing, case management and/or relationship development


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • If applying to work with volunteer participants - understanding of youth development and working with adult learners.
  • If applying to work with family participants - understanding of youth development, family dynamics, and trauma informed care.
  • Ability to efficiently organize tasks, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a structured approach to work, ensuring that work is completed on time and with attention to quality and detail.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Possesses strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of mandated reporting guidelines
  • Experience with handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Goal oriented, with a strong commitment to quality and results
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and the ability to coach and mentor participants in this area.
  • Experience working with Salesforce CRM, highly preferred.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends; willingness to schedule around participant availability.


Physical Requirements

The applicant can expect sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction

Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in the greater Twin Cities serving Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka and parts of Dakota and Washington counties. Each year, we match up to 2,600 youth (Littles) and their families with caring adults (Bigs) who volunteer as youth mentors.
