Position Summary
The Department of Teacher Education in the Sanford College of Education (SCOE) at National University invites applications for an Assistant, an Associate, or a Full Professor in Education specializing in Teacher Preparation at the graduate level. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, leadership, and scholarship in their field and a commitment to serving the university’s diverse adult student body. This remote position works closely with other disciplines, administration, and faculty. This position is expected to contribute to programmatic strategies that ensure program quality, student engagement, and success. The Academic Program Director (APD) collaborates with program faculty to develop strategies to support the degree program. We are looking for a candidate who can lead teaching and master’s degree programs and support teacher candidates and full and part-time faculty in the program.
Essential Functions:
Candidates will be evaluated for their level of proficiency and potential (for excellence) in teaching, scholarship, and service. The main expectations of this position include:
Teaching
- Teach and develop online or onsite courses in the following areas: Teacher preparation and innovative educational practices.
- Maintain pedagogical and subject matter expertise in the instructor’s field.
- Create an inclusive and positive learning environment for diverse learners.
- Ensure course and program practices align with compliance and accreditation standards.
- Adhere to the National University’s academic integrity policy.
Scholarship
- Maintain a productive scholarship agenda suitable to a teaching university.
- Engage in scholarly activities to maintain professional growth.
- Participate in professional development as outlined in faculty policies.
Service
- Participate in curriculum oversight, shared governance, and the student experience.
- Serve on program, department, school, college, and/or university committees and engage in community activities that promote program outreach and university goals.
- Participate in program meetings and advisory boards to integrate best practices and strategic initiatives.
- Leading part-time faculty to ensure course delivery with fidelity and support student success
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Education & Experience
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in education or related discipline is required; experience or a degree specializing in teacher preparation is preferred.
- A state-issued teaching credential equivalent to multiple or single subjects or an out-of-state teacher credential with reciprocity with California.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of online higher education experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining courses preferred.
- Experience in academic program administration, including accreditation (if applicable), developing, and teaching program courses.
- Demonstrated experience with mediating students’ academic concerns.
Special conditions of employment include:

- Travel is required at least once annually to attend the annual Commencement ceremony (if held onsite).

Compensation Range:
Annual Salary: $66,560.00 - $105,355.00
Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position.
