Job description

Overview:

Kimley-Horn's Atlanta, GA office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with 4+ years of experience to join their Electrical team. With a focus on serving clients within the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, the Power Studies Engineer will act as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. This is an in-office position. 

Responsibilities:
  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects e.g. commercial, industrial and generation projects
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support 
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards 
  • Studies performed may include (per candidate experience): 
    • Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM 
    • Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis 
    • Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP 
    • Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat 
    • Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or PSLF 
    • Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software 
    • Relay setting development using SEL AcSELerator 
    • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types
    • Continually gain knowledge in industry
Qualifications:
  • 4+ years’ experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC 
  • 1+ years' project management experience  
  • EIT certification or path to move towards certification is preferred 
  • CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS experience preferred 
  • Understanding or willing to learn, the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies 
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems 
  • Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology 
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD) 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently 
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
