Director, Engineering Operations

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Director of Engineering Operations to help build a foundation for operational excellence within Engineering department. In this role, you will lead and optimize the processes and operations of the engineering team to ensure efficient project delivery, scalability, and team effectiveness. This role includes developing/overseeing best practices and workflows to ensure seamless collaboration across product, UI/UX, development, QA, and DevOps teams. As Director of Engineering Operations, you’ll partner with product and engineering leadership to establish and lead operating processes. Use your analytical mindset, exceptional project/program management skills, and ability to work seamlessly with employees at all levels to create organization and clarity for our Engineering/Product teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Optimize Engineering processesto ensure engineering best practices and business processes are consistent, well-aligned across the organization, and result in desired outcomes to support goals
  • Develop streamlined processes and mechanisms to improve operational efficiency and communication
  • Develop business cases to support new and improved processes for Engineering, creating actionable insights and tasks
  • Lead and complete existing and new concurrent projects, guiding other members of the org on their projects 
  • Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional partners such as Learning and Development, HR, and IT to align on priorities 
  • Identify areas of work where we can pause, remove roadblocks, or re-prioritize resources
  • Develop, review, maintain and optimize existing processes 
  • Build scalable reporting and analytics solutions by implement performance tracking and reporting mechanisms. For example, tracking KPIs, product metrics, and feedback to identify areas for improvement.
  • Execute, measure progress, and share results of the critical work done within engineering 
  • Foster a collaborative environment, promoting effective communication and knowledge sharing among engineering teams and cross-functional departments for seamless operational execution

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Operations/Project Management, or Information Management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in leading engineering operations org at scale
  • 5+ years of previous experience in people and project management
  • Deep understanding of engineering processes and best practices
  • Prior experience in an Engineering role is preferred
  • Strong relationship skills with the ability to foster a sense of community with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills and an ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to move seamlessly between conversing with engineers, operations teams, and Senior Executives
  • Problem solver and strategic thinker who is comfortable using frameworks and data to help structure the team's thinking and solve multi-faceted problems
  • Experience in managing resourcing/staffing and having worked directly with VP & C-Suite level on a regular basis.
  • Strong background in process improvement and team management.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to manage geographical disbursed teams.

Special Work Conditions    

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
The compensation range for this position is:
$145,000$157,500 USD
