Job description

Software Engineer Team Leader

Salary upto £50,000

As a Software Engineering Team Leader, you will supervise and manage a team of 3-4 software engineers, ensuring smooth team operations and effective collaboration. You will foster an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture, managing workloads and maintaining a positive attitude in challenging situations. Your role involves setting clear team goals, and actively contributing to the development of both people and practices, and responsible for developing and maintaining high-quality web applications, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a software engineering team, fostering an open and collaborative environment.
  • Work directly with the Software Engineering Manager, other Engineering Team Leaders, Product Managers, Technical Product Owners, and Infrastructure Engineers to ensure high-standard feature delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Product Design Team to create optimal user experiences.
  • Oversee the software development lifecycle to ensure timely delivery of products according to the roadmap.
  • Report on project progress and highlight any risks that may affect timelines.
  • Contribute to the team’s working practises and technology decisions, defining and developing a Sprint backlog.
  • Design, develop, and maintain web applications using TypeScript and React.
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Implement serverless architecture and services using AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway, etc.).
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code while adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications to optimise performance and user experience.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Our office

Our office is located in The Sharp Project, Manchester which you have daily access to. There are great transport links and free onsite parking (for cars & bikes).

The Sharp Project is home to over 60 digital entrepreneurs and production companies specialising in digital content production, digital media and TV and film production.

Our team follows a primarily remote work schedule, with occasional requirements to attend the office for workshops, ad-hoc team meetings, full company meetings, and company/team events, all of which are communicated in advance. For those who prefer to come in more frequently, desks are available in the office for flexible use.

Hours and days of work

37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for various audiences.
  • Experience in managing change effectively.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and disagreements effectively.
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies/frameworks such as Scrum.
  • Proven ability to deliver technical design within web applications using Typescript, React and Rust.
  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer with a strong focus on TypeScript and React.
  • Experience with AWS services and cloud-based application development.
  • Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
