Job Title

Associate Editor, Weekends, People Digital

Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

People Digital is hiring a U.K.-based associate editor who will be a key member of the weekend team, getting content on the site first thing on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The person in this role will start the day off, setting the site up for success by getting up breaking news and stories at the top of the news agenda, across multiple verticals. This person will work alongside news editors in New York and Los Angeles, to manage a team of writers, aiming to produce an average of 30 stories per shift. Breaking news experience is critical in this position, as anything can happen on the weekends. On any regular weekend day without breaking news, the slate of content going live should be newsy, varied, covering diverse topics and people, and geared towards driving traffic and engaging an audience on social platforms and on search.

People as a site covers 16 content areas, and the person in this role should be comfortable identifying content opportunities and overseeing the execution of stories across areas like entertainment, royals, crime, human interest, and lifestyle. During the weekdays that the associate editor is on, they’ll be contributing to PEOPLE’s morning news operation as well as to the team dedicated to creating content that is newsy, reliable, and informative with impeccable SEO, intended to reach an intent-driven audience on search.

The shift is typically Thursday through to Monday but may be adjusted to the applicant’s preferences for non-weekend days off as needed. It is a remote position. Must have a keen understanding of the American entertainment and news landscape.
