Job description

Intro
Feather is on a mission to make insurance straightforward, transparent, and flexible. We call ourselves an insurance companion because we believe insurance should adapt to your lifestyle as it changes, and even join you when you change countries. We succeeded in creating an experience our users love (see our Trustpilot and Google reviews), but we were only at the beginning of the journey.

We’re looking for a Product Designer to help us redefine what insurance can be. We’re only at the beginning of the journey, and there’s a huge potential for shaping a product that customers already trust and love. You’ll dive deep into the challenges around insurance, using empathy and creativity to design solutions that make insurance feel intuitive, approachable, and even delightful.

You’ll be joining a talented team of 4-5 designers and a senior user researcher, within a broader company of about 60. We’re still small, so you’ll be an integral part of a collaborative team, working closely with engineers, product managers, and customer support to bring clarity and simplicity to every touchpoint.
This is a full-time and remote position within Europe.
Why work at Feather?
  • Small team, flat hierarchy, mission-driven. The usual buzzwords here, except we actually mean them. We're small, lean, and we love what we're doing. And we expect our new designer to embody these ideals as well when hiring the new team.
  • Work from home. We are a remote company hiring in Europe. You'll be able to work anywhere so long that you stay close to the CET timezone. We also have an office in Berlin if you’d like to meet in person!
  • Modern processes. Our processes have purpose, which is why we only make new ones when they're helpful. We also only use tools that allow us to enjoy our work (so no JIRA). Instead, we use Figma, Notion, Linear, Slack, and a few others.
  • €1,200 annual learning budget. You can spend this on educating yourself: books, conferences, classes, etc.
  • €500 office furnishing budget. On top of all the company equipment that you'll be getting (MacBook, Monitor, AirPods, keyboard, …) you'll be able to spend €500 on a nice and comfortable home office setup.
What you bring to the table
  • 3+ years of professional experience as a product designer
  • Strong UI and visual design skills: proficiency in composition, visual hierarchy, color theory, and typography. You have a knack for modern design patterns when working on UI.
  • Equally proficient in UX: crafting user flows that simplify complex processes, with a keen sense of when to present information to minimize effort
  • Strong English level, since you’ll be doing a lot of UX writing.
  • Your Figma files are clean and easy to understand without much documentation. You maintain a single source of truth and avoid unnecessary duplication.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present your ideas clearly.
  • Intuitive understanding of the design landscape of modern SAAS products like Spotify, Slack, Figma, Airtable, etc.
You'll be responsible for
  • Contributing to the overall product strategy and direction by pitching new projects for the roadmap and helping us prioritize existing ones
  • Creating new platform features and improving existing ones. E.g. our task engine, recommendation tool, and questionnaire framework.
  • Building entire flows for new insurance verticals — landing pages, sign-ups, claims, emails, admin panel
  • Maintaining and growing our design system
  • Collaborating with our user researcher to better understand our user’s needs
  • Being the mediator of customer needs, business goals, and technical efficiency
  • Sharing design knowledge with the rest of the company
What will the interview process look like?
  1. Send us your portfolio. You don’t need to write a book about your case studies, we won’t have time to read them, put lots of screenshots of your projects instead. Your skills will mainly be assessed during the live design task.
  2. Initial phone call — We'll have a chat over Google Meet, ask you a few questions about your design experience, and talk shortly about projects you've worked on
  3. Live task — You’ll have about 1h in a video call to work on a design task. This will help us understand how you think, collaborate, and what your skill profile is like.
  4. Chat with the founders — You'll be speaking to one of our founders
  5. Offer!
Does this sound like a good fit for you? Apply now!
  • We’re huge advocates for diversity and inclusion. From LGBTQ+ events to open discussions about eliminating bias, we highly encourage people from underrepresented groups to apply.
  • We also encourage people without degrees to apply: we believe that what you've worked on and achieved is way more important than on-paper qualifications.
About us
Feather was founded in 2018 by Rob Schumacher and Vincent Audoire after both of them struggled to navigate the insurance system in Germany (even though they are European). They wanted to create insurance products that were as simple as they knew it could be.
That’s why we’re building insurance to make all interactions easier and more transparent: from signing up and filing a claim to canceling. Our goal is to give people honest, unbiased advice, with the information they need to make the right decision. And, because of how complicated insurance is, we offer tools, articles, and support where people can reach out to a human about problems or questions they have.
Currently, Feather has helped people from over 150 countries get insurance digitally and is expanding quickly.
