The Opportunity:

The National Post is hiring a reporter for its Ottawa parliamentary bureau. The bureau covers federal politics for National Post and Postmedia, Canada's largest news chain, including the Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette.

What you’ll do:

The ideal candidate has a talent for news-feature writing and a knack for creative ideas for stories that would make compelling profiles, round-ups, explainers, behind-the-scenes dramas, and tick-tocks. The candidate will be an enterprising self-starter and team player able to collaborate with a dynamic bureau. The candidate will have a sense for stories that resonate both on Parliament Hill and across the country and can write in a way that is clear, concise and colourful.

Who you are:

  • 3+ years of newsroom experience, preferably with some background in federal, provincial or municipal politics.
  • Familiarity with the workings of the federal government.
  • An understanding of how to research stories using sources, access to information, data-mining and social media.
  • An understanding of the editorial values of the National Post.
  • Bilingualism is preferred but not required.
