So what does a Payroll Manager do? You will be in charge of processing payroll from start to finish in compliance with local regulation for multiple sites or entities as well as being the lead sponsor for projects related to Payroll as needed
As a Payroll Manager, you will:
Manage start to end process for Payroll
Oversee and ensure Statutory/Social Insurance and tax compliance in local country
Lead and assist with internal and external audit requirements
Manage a team of Payroll Analyst & Specialist
Maintain standardization of payroll data in alignment with Global Procedures
Maintain payroll system updates and advice on new system applications or improvements required.
The Payroll Manager position covers the following responsibilities, but not limited to:
Complete Payroll process evaluation and recommendations for improvement
Provide managerial support and guidance for payroll activities
Manage payroll and timekeeping systems
Maintain partnerships with various vendors for payroll, timekeeping, garnishments, and governmental agencies.
Solid understanding of employment law, regulatory and legal compliance to address notifications and provide guidance to team of payroll specialist
Completes Payroll reconciliations and designs new reports as needed
Demonstrate positive team performance
Ensure that process service levels are met in accordance with set standards
Ensures that all internal risk and control guidelines are met and executed in every process
Responsible for direct report training programs
Subject matter expert with the ability to apply knowledge of the business to solve strategic payroll issues
Assist in preparation of corporate budgets and annual estimates for salaries and payroll taxes
Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity
Responsible for hiring, determining staffing levels and resource allocation for the Payroll team
Partner with process peers in Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Labor Relations, Corporate Taxes, and related third party vendors to resolve employee questions/issues
Provide key support to the Finance and Accounting group
Fluency with HR policies pertaining to payroll such as overtime, leave, benefits, employee compensation, health and welfare, and retirement benefit administration
Coach and develop payroll team
Conduct meetings with different level contacts and departments as needed.
Manage relation with local Payroll Vendor, bank representative for Payroll Bank account services and government authorities
Participate in projects as needed

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on business or accounting preferred
Experience with computerized payroll processing
Experience with Payroll Vendor management and Workday HR/Payroll systems a plus
Microsoft Excel and Word
Must be detailed oriented
Able to meet deadlines
Bi-lingual speaker (English and Japanese)
Experienced with payroll and other finance functions and/or HR Total Rewards is a plus
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Outstanding customer service
Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate with all levels across the various departments.
Able to work in fast paced and high volume process environment
Diligent in following through to guarantee full completion of task or issue.
Should be able to work independently to ensure day to day functions and projects are completed and should be able to work as a team for collaboration, projects or achievement of team and company goals.
Use all resources available to resolve issues and escalate as needed to leadership.
Be able to respond assertively regarding payroll matters.
Must have a good sense of urgency.
Physical Demands and Working conditions
Able to sit for long periods.
Activities may also involve walking, standing, speaking and listening.
Hand / eye coordination.
