The Key Account Manager is a high-level sales professional responsible for driving business growth. Priorities include the annual planning with assigned accounts, identifying growth opportunities and effective resource allocation. The key focus of the Key Account Manager is to own the development, negotiation, and implementation of a Joint Business Plans with customers in optical retail and wholesalers. 

In this role, a typical day will include:  

  • Being responsible for driving sales, promotion, and development in the designated accounts to reach commercial objectives

  • Develop customer development strategy, Joint Business Planning and aligning on account objectives and deliverables  

  • Develop understanding of customer business model, consumer segment and competitive market to influence customer decisions and negotiate contracts

  • Establish and develop long-term relationships with key customers. Acquiring a thorough understanding of key customer needs and requirements. Expanding the relationships with existing customers by continuously proposing solutions that meet their needs and objectives

  • Lead the alignment of a cross-functional Customer Partnership Team and prioritize account objectives           

  • Lead the preparation of strategies and individual tactical plans and to give input in terms of analysis, future potential and key programs required for the accounts       

  • Prepare and negotiate contracts, and guiding initiatives that the company launches to target particular account           

  • Proactively identify competitive activity, which may have major, long-term impact on sales goals/strategies and develop initiatives to provide competitive point of difference using knowledge of industry trends and competitive environment      

  • Guide and advice the customers on their market trends and how products and services meet their needs with the appropriate marketing and sales programs and offerings

  • Work in collaboration with sales, marketing, professional affairs stakeholders, to  develop customer negotiation strategies and framework, and drive alignment across  customers, operating to minimize exposure and maximize return

  • Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, leading negotiations with credibility and respect

  • Monitors the commercial strategy regularly to make adjustments and modifications as required

  • Significantly contribute at all team meetings, conference calls, trainings, sales meetings

  • Work within Integrity and Compliance policies and all company policies and ensure those around you do the same

What you’ll bring to Alcon:

  • Experience in commercial roles (key account management, sales, trade marketing)

  • Understanding of the UK Optical market an advantage

  • Proven ability to deliver strong Joint Business Plans leading to sales and market share growth

  • Ability to use of persuasion/influencing tactics to achieve business objectives

  • Proven experience of delivering added value campaigns with demonstrable ROI

  • Experience of cross-functional working

  • Proven experience in developing and establishing successful key relationships and delivering excellent standards of customer service

  • University degree qualification or equivalent in Business Management, Economics, Marketing or a related field – desired

  • Fluency in English (verbal and written)

  • Any other European language would be an asset
